This study was to determine whether the use of sandtray therapy can help alleviate the difficulties experienced by a child with post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD). The subject of this study was a 10-year old girl with PTSD. The goal of the therapy undertaken with this child was to enable her to overcome the fear of death and return to her normal everyday life. The sandtray therapy was administered 21 sessions in total. According to the result, first, during the first sessions the child experienced the sandtray as a free and protective space based on trust between the therapy and the child. Second, during the middle sessions the child expressed her inner feelings of fear, anxiety and conflict within the sandtray. It symbolized mother-child unity and the images of death and rebirth. In the final sessions, she showed integration and adaption by expressing the union of opposites and self images as a whole in the tray. In the post-treatment session, it was confirmed that there is significant improvement in her social adaptability. This study showed the effectiveness of sandtray therapy for child with PTSD.
