이 연구의 목적은 의미 구성을 위해 인터넷 독자들이 사용하는 초인지적 전략에 관한 독서 연구자와 교육자들의 이해를 증진시키는 데에 있다. 이를 위해, 필자는 인터넷 독서에서 요구되는 초인지적 전략을 탐색한 사고 구술 연구를 학술 정보 시스템에서 종합적으로 검색하였다. 그리고 확인된 경험적 연구들의 결과를 분석, 평가, 종합하였다. 이 과정에서 필자는 특히, 인터넷 상에서 요구되는 초인지적 독서 전략의 본질을 다음의 세 가지 측면 즉, 1) 정보 검색의 계획과 점검, 2) 방향 상실의 지각과 해결, 3) 정보의 관련성과 신뢰성의 평가로 세분화하여 검토하였다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 하여 이 문헌 연구는 인터넷 독서가 인쇄 글 읽기에 비해 보다 복잡한 초인지적 과정을 요구한다는 점을 제안하였다. 아울러, 이 글은 대상 사고 구술 연구에서 발견된 인터넷 독서 과정의 특징들을 네 가지 측면에서 논의하였다. 그것은 1) 전통적 독서 전략의 재현, 2) 높은 빈도의 예측 전략의 사용, 3) 정보의 독해와 관리라는 인터넷 독자의 이중 과제, 4) 비판적, 평가적 독서 전략, 그리고 5) 새로운 배경 지식으로서의 시스템 지식의 역할을 포함한다. 필자는 이 연구가 독서 교육자들에게 인터넷이라는 새로운 환경에서 요구되는 초인지적 독서 전략에 관하여 유의미한 정보를 제공해 줄 것이라고 기대한다.
The purpose of this review is to describe the metacognitive reading comprehension strategies that readers draw on for constructing meaning on the Internet. For the present work, I conducted a comprehensive search for think-aloud studies on readers' online comprehension processes. In analyzing the target verbal protocol studies, I applied the descriptive analysis framework based on the following categories: planning and monitoring the search tactics; perceiving and solving disorientation; and evaluating information quality. The reviewed literature reveals that Internet reading demands readers' more complex and coordinated strategy use at the metacognitve level. The characteristics of Internet reading is discussed in terms of: iteration of off-line reading strategies, a high incidence of prediction strategies, strategic processes of information comprehension and management, critical and evaluative reading strategies, and roles of system knowledge in online reading processes.
