선사시대 때부터 인간은 거주지역 선택에 있어서 안전을 우선적으로 고려하여 선택하는 모습을 보였다. 그 이후로도 인간은 다양한 형태의 물리적 장애물을 활용하여 안전한 삶을 영위하기 위여 생활하였다. 이와 함께 인간들은 보다 안전한 삶을 유지하기 위하여 이웃 간의 유대관계를 활용한 집단적인 군락을 형성하여 종합적인 형태의 치안시스템을 구축하여 안전적인 삶을 영위하였다 물리적 환경을 활용한 안전한 삶을 영위하려는 활동은 20세기에 들어와 보다 과학적으로 발전하기 시작하였다. 1960년대부터 본격적으로 도입된 “물리적 환경을 이용한 범죄예방 활동”은 여러 학자들의 주장을 발전하였다. 2000년 이후 국내에서 실시된 CPTED 연구는 주로 CPTED 요소를 중심으로 연구가 실시되었다. 그 결과 기존의 CPTED 연구는 인적 예방요소를 포함하지 않은 문제, 주로 공동주택을 중심으로 실시되었다는 문제점을 지적받게 되었다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 기존의 공동주택 중심의 CPTED 연구에서 벗어나 단독주택에 거주하는 거주민을 대상으로 CPTED 요소에 대한 연구를 실시하였다. 연구내용으로는 단독주택 거주지역의 주민의 자연적 감시의 확보가 이웃 주민간의 유대관계의 영향을 통해 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 그 결과 단독주택 거주민의 자연적 감시 확보가 이웃 간의 주민유대에 긍정적인 영향을 미치게 되어 범죄에 대한 두려움의 감소에 영향을 준다는 결과가 나타났다. 이 연구에서는 단독주택 거주민들에 의한 CPTED 요소인 자연적 감시의 확보가 주민간의 유대관계를 활성화 시켜 범죄에 대한 두려움에 미치는 영향에 대해서 살펴봄으로써 기존의 CPTED 연구와 달리 조사 지역에 대한 차별성, CPTED 요소 중에서“자연적 감시”를 중심으로 한 연구방향의 차별성, 그리고 CPTED 연구에서 지역 주민간의 유대관계를 복합적으로 연구를 한 것에 대한 의의를 가지는 연구라 볼 수 있다.
From the prehistoric age, the top priority of human in choosing their residential area was security. After the times people utilized physical barrier to have safety life. In community creating bond between neighbors The move to secure safe life through physical environment advanced scientifically in twentieth century. “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED)” which has vastly introduced from 1960's advanced by many scholars' study. After 2000, domestic studies about CPTED usually focused on elements of CPTED. As a result, established studies have criticized for being conducted to apartment houses without considering human protection. So, this study focused on the residents of detached houses out of existing studies focusing on apartment houses. Main subject is the influence of securing natural surveillance to fear of crimes among residents of detached houses by creating bond between neighbors. As a result it has approved that securing natural surveillance by residents of detached houses can give positive influence to creating bond between neighbors and it can decrease fear of crimes. This study is quite meaningful because it is different from existing studies. First, the difference in research area. Second, the difference in study direction by focusing on “Natural surveillance” among other elements of CPTED. Third, Considering bonds between neighbors in CPTED study.
