본 연구는 기존의 장소정체성 교육의 한계를 지적하고, 고등학교 학령단계에 적실한 장소정체성 교육의 방향을 설정하는데 그 목적이 있다. 제7차 교육과정에 의한 10학년 『사회』 교과서에는 장소 관련 단원이 새롭게 설정됨으로써 장소정체성 교육의 계기를 마련하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 장소의 개념이 모호하게 제시되어 있을 뿐만 아니라, 장소 인식의 차이를 입지와 연계시킴으로써 교사와 학생들로 하여금 개념상 혼돈을 초래시킬 가능성을 내포하고 있다. 또한 장소와 관련한 탐구활동 역시 주로 개인의 심리적 반응에 근거한 인간주의 장소정체성 교육의 관점에 머물고 있다. 따라서 고등학교 학령단계에 적실한 장소정체성 교육을 위해서는 장소에 대한 느낌, 감정, 선호라는 개인적 반응의 차원을 넘어, 현대사회로 올수록 더욱 심해지는 장소의 상실, 왜곡, 무장소성 등을 비판적으로 읽고 쓸 수 있는 관점이 필요하다. 이를 위해서는 장소정체성 교육이 기존의 ‘분포의 정치학’에서 탈피하여 새로운 인식론으로서 ‘문화정치학’으로 전환할 필요가 있다. 즉 삶의 세계로서의 장소를 구성하는 젊은이들의 문화를 끌어와서 이를 비판적으로 읽고 쓸 수 있도록 하는 비판적 문해력 향상에 초점을 두어야 한다. 그렇게 될 때, 지리교과를 통한 장소정체성 교육은 학생들의 책임감과 행동 변화에 초점을 둔 실천지향적 관점으로 나아갈 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to set up the direction of the suitable education of place identity in the high school. A place related unit was newly set in social studies textbook for ten years based on the 7th curriculum. Nevertheless, teachers and students can be confused because of the concept of place defined vaguely and by relating the difference of place recognition to location. Moreover, inquiry activity concerned with place mainly remains in the viewpoint of the education of humanistic identity place based on personal psychological response. Therefore, it is required not personal response called feeling, preference of place but literacy which can read and write critically placelessness and distortion of place in modern society. For this, education of place identity is necessary to be transformed ?the politics of culture? from the existing ?the politics of a distribution?. That is, we have to put a focus on the improvement in critical literacy that can read and write this critically with drawing the culture of the young people which constitute the place as the life-world. The time of becoming such, the education of place identity through geography subject can travel to practical viewpoint put focus on students? responsibility and change of action.
