본 논문에서는 지금까지 초대 이승만 정부부터 지난 김대중 정부까지의 50여년에 이르는 동안 교육부 장관을 역임한 총 45명 장관들의 특성을 구체적인 자료를 이용해서 실증적 분석을 하였다. 교육과 관련된 문제는 어느 정부를 막론하고 늘 모든 국민들의 관심사가 되었다. 따라서 교육정책을 책임지고 있는 교육부 장관이 누가 임명되는지도 점차 중요시 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우선 교육부의 변천과정을 살펴보고 역대 교육부 장관에 대한 일반적인 특성들을 분석해 봄으로써 각 정부별로 임용된 교육부 장관들을 비교분석하였다. 끝으로 연구자는 이런 종합적인 분석을 통해서 앞으로 교육부 장관 연구가 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하였다.
This study tries to investigate the former 45 ministers of Education in Korean governments since the Lee Seoung Man administration in 1948. It has been common in Korea that every persons have major interests in educational issues, especially college entrance examination. Thus people often concern the candidates and newly appointed ministers of Education as a head of ministry and a top decisionmaker of various educational policies. Using all formal and informal data regarding the ministers' personal information and records, we explore the characteristics of former ministers of Education in each government in terms of social and career backgrounds. We conclude with suggestions on the direction of a future empirical research on the ministers of Education.
