This qualitative study explored students’ academic help seeking through a message board in an online Q&A service in an educational website in South Korea. In particular, this study identified the advantages and disadvantages of a Q&A service for academic help seeking, as seen by students. While there are some challenges of academic help seeking through asynchronous text-based message board, the four most important benefits reported: feeling comfortable, overcoming time and space limitation, having enough time to organize questions and understand answers, and being motivated to study hard and stimulated cognitively by sharing messages with others. Implications for practice are also discussed.
본 연구는 최근 한국에서 증가하고 있는 인터넷 사교육 사이트의 질문-답변 서비스에서 이루어지고 있는 학생들의 학업관련 도움요청을 탐색한 질적 연구이다. 본 연구에서는 특히 학생들이 웹게시판을 활용한 질문-답변 서비스를 통해 학업관련 도움요청을 하면서 지각한 장단점을 분석해 보았다. 학생들이 지각한 웹게시판을 활용한 학업관련 도움요청의 장점으로는 심리적 편안함, 시공간 제약에서 자유로움, 질문 작성 및 답변 이해에 필요한 충분한 시간 확보, 다른 학생과의 질문-답변 공유를 통한 새로운 내용 습득 및 학습 동기 향상이 나타났다. 웹게시판을 활용한 학업관련 도움요청의 단점으로는 특수문자 및 이미지 표현의 어려움, 문자만을 활용한 명확한 질문 작성의 어려움, 답변 기다리는 시간 등이 나타났다. 그리고 본 글에서는 여기서 나타난 연구결과들을 바탕으로 온라인 질문-답변 서비스가 학생들에게 유용하게 사용되기 위해 필요한 사항들에 대해 논의하였다.
