This is almost initial research focused on the issues of experimental films in Asia. There must have been any research done regarding with other forms of art in its cultural or/and historical context, or maybe with very closely video art. However experimental film, the specific boundary of the meaning of it used here is tried to be limited to the discourse of cinema. The history of cinema started in Asia in very early age as the Western but the experimental film history is radically different or maybe hardly active one’s ever existed. There are differences according to the context of each cultural area or historical division, especially Japan has developed well before other countries started to be doing so. However there must be a standard platform or template which we have to develope for the academic research on it. The theoretical approach should be maybe long before this became aware of and besides there is accumulated study which can be used to analyse this issue. But I tried not to attempt it at once but rather cautiously started with case study. This was motivated by the official meeting held in the section ‘Asia Forum’ during Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul.
