이 글은 국민보도연맹 결성에서 한국전쟁까지의 사상사적·문화사적 특수공간이 지닌 문화사적 의미를 문화인의 전향을 통해 고찰하는 것을 목표로 한다. 단정수립 후의 전향은 사회주의자는 물론이고 중간파, 아나키스트, 자유주의자 심지어 민족주의자들까지도 포괄할 만큼 전폭적·강제적이었던 관계로 전향자의 규모가 방대했고, 전향선언 발표와 국민보도연맹 가입을 의무화시켜 전향의 공식성을 부여한 뒤 체계적으로 감시하고 동원하는 시스템이 가동되었다. 문화적인 측면에서 전향은 문화주체의 변용을 포함해 문화 장 전반의 구조변동을 규율하는 기제로 작용하는 가운데 해방 후 각종 진보적 문화기획을 왜곡, 좌절시켰으며 동시에 문화제도권을 둘러싼 문화주체들 간의 헤게모니투쟁을 촉발하는 계기로 작용했다. 따라서 문화주체들에게 있어서 전향은 권력에의 굴복이라는 현상적 의미를 넘어 서로 다른 욕망이 분출하고 경합하는 역동적인 장이었다. 해방 후 문화운동의 분극화 현상으로 야기된 문화적 중간파의 비대화가 전향을 둘러싼 주체들의 갈등을 더욱 복잡하게 만들었다. 국가권력과의 길항관계 속에서 보수우익이 주도권을 장악하고 관장한 전향공간에서의 문화 재편은 지리적(남북) 적대를 확대재생산하고 일제잔재 청산과 민족통일에 관련한 비판적 담론을 원천 봉쇄시키는 가운데 문화 전반을 반공주의 자장 속으로 편입시키는 결과를 초래했다. 전향(자)에 대한 실증작업과 더불어 이 과정은 새롭게 논구돼야 할 과제이다.
This writing aims at considering cultural meaning ideologic and cultural speciality space contains from nation guidance federation to Korean war through the conversion of the intellectuals. As the conversion after independence government establishment was wholehearted and compulsory enough to include neutrals, liberalists, and even nationalists as well as socialists, the number of convert was enormous, and the system for mobilizing and supervising put into operation by making conversion declaration announcement and admission to nation guidance federation obligatory and, as a result, making conversion official. In the cultural approach, conversion operated as an installation to regulate construction change of general culture champ including metamorphosis, after independence, distorted and collapsed various kinds of cultural planning, and, at the same time, served as a major cause to stimulate hegemony fighting among cultural subjects surrounding cultural system. As a result, the conversion to the cultural subjects was a dynamic champ where various desires gushed and conflicted rather than a phenomenal meaning, the surrender to the power. After independence, the hypertrophy of cultural neutrals caused by polarization of culture campaign made subjects' conflict over conversion more complicated. In the contentious relation with the government power, cultural rearrangement in the space of conversion conservative rightists had hegemony and control expanded and reproduced geographical hostility, totally blockaded critical discussions about liquidating Japanese imperialism remnants and unifying our nation, and, finally, brought about the result of including whole culture into anticommunism field.
