본 논문은 파리장서운동에 참여한 인물 가운데 영남지역에서 보조적인 역할을 수행했던 인물들의 인적 구성과 활동 내용을 살펴본 글이다. 이들은 파리장서운동을추진한 인물이나 파리장서에 서명한 인물에 비해 덜 알려져 있으나, 파리장서운동의역동적 전개와 ‘제2차 유림단 의거’로 불리는 후속 활동에 기여한 인물들이었다. 따라서 이들에 대한 연구는 1919년부터 1920년대 걸친 유림 독립운동의 연속과 단절을 이해하는 데 큰 도움을 준다. 이들은 파리장서운동에 협력하는데 있어 시기별로 역할을 달리 하였다. 제1기에는 스승 또는 지방의 유림지도자에게 운동의 개요를 설명하고 참여를 권유하는 한편 독립청원서의 집필을 요청하는 역할을 수행했고(곽윤.김황.장시원.송규선. 송수근), 제2기에는 독립청원서 서명자 명단을 모으고 자금을 모집하며 각지의 운동진행결과를 지도층에 전달하는 역할을 맡았으며(김황.송규선.정종호.하익진.이기철), 제3기에는 김창숙의 국외파견활동을 지원하는 임무를 맡았다(이현덕.박돈서.박광). 이들은 파리장서 서명자들이 감당할 수 없는 세세한 영역까지 파고들어 서명자규합, 자금 모집, 출국 지원 등 다양한 역할을 성곡적으로 수행함으로써 김창숙의출국을 가능케 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 파리장서운동에서의 이런 다양한 경험은 이들이 1925,6년 김창숙이 기획한 독립운동기지 건설운동에 주역으로 참여할 수 있는경험적 토대가 되었다. 이들은 1920년대 초 유교계의 독립운동에 대한 소극적인 태도에도 불구하고 영남 유림의 인적망을 최대한 활용하여 숙련된 기술로 자금 제공을 요구하고 김창숙의 재출국을 도왔으며 나석주의거를 성사시키는 동력을 제공하였다.
In 1919, an strange independence movement, named Pari JangseoUndong(巴里長書運動: so called the 1st Confucian Independence Movement),was led by a numerous Korean confucian. The Korea confucian over onehundred persons strongly asked the International Peace Conference in Parisfor supporting the independence of Korea against Imperial Japan. But, now,we just know only the name and activity of the signers. Then, did theyhandle all the affairs related to the independence movement? Were suchsituations possible? According to documents related to those, our answer isno. Many persons were needed to help the leaders and the signers. Becausethe leaders was too old, sick to carry out urgent affairs, and sometimescould nothing for private things, for example wearing funeral rites for parents. Additionally, it's impossible to come and go to meet important persons usingboulevards because Japanese polices watched out and prevents from Koreanafter 3.1 Movement. Then, who passed the important informations to manypersons, met the famous confucian of province and encouraged them to sign,and gathered lots of money to need in many activities, and therefore led thisindependence movement possible?Now, let's call the persons to have helped the leaders and the signers'cooperator' of Pari Jangseo Undong. According to several documents relatedto this independence movement, the number of the cooperators was aboutfifty eight and over, and one of the persons who worked in Gyoungsang-do was fifty five. Did they participate in the independence movement for anyreasons? How did it the reasons affect in their activities? And, what did thecooperators do in details?
