본 연구는 여배우 수애가 주연으로 출연한 영화 전부인 <가족>, <나의 결혼원정기>, <그 해 여름>, <님은 먼 곳에> 등 네 편의 영화를 연구 대상으로 하여 영화가 한 여배우를 호명하고 가상의 여성 캐릭터를 재현하는 방식을 통해 특정한 의미를 생산하고 구축하는 과정에 내재되어 있는 성의 정치학을 분석하려는 목표를 가지고 있다. 이상의 영화에서 여성인물들은 폭력, 분단, 반공 이데올로기, 전쟁 등의 실존의 조건에 의해 조용하고 순종적인 아비투스를 취하게 된다. 남성들은 이와 같은 여성의 연약한 모습을 수난 받는 국가와 동일시하여 지키고 보호하려고 애쓰며 마침내 여성은 남성에 의해 삶을 보장받고 특히 순결을 지키게 된다. 이와 같이 견고한 성정체성에 기반한 전근대적 서사구조에서 여성 인물은 주체적이지 못한 수동적 인간상으로 재현되고 남성과 여성은 상하관계 및 우열관계로 이원화된다. 결과적으로 이러한 영화의 여성인물 재현방식과 반복적으로 호명되는 여배우의 이미지는 오늘의 사회에서 여성에게 은밀하게 요구되는 이데올로기를 보여주며 가부장제 고착화에 기여할 뿐 아니라 페미니즘의 퇴보를 보여준다.
