This article aims to analyze descriptions of grammatical elements in school grammar textbooks through comparison and contrast among a total 11 books, and to suggest directions for improvement. Grammatical elements in textbooks in 2002, 2012, and 2014 are used to refer to grammatical categories of Korean, such as tense, passive, causative, negation, quotative, etc. We examine whether the each definition and explanation on the category is correct, and whether the technical terms used in explaining the phenomena are reasonable. Ultimately, this paper is aimed at discovering some problematic descriptions and putting them right.
