본고는 <차사본풀이>와 웹툰 <신과 함께>에서 이승과 저승이라는 공간의 관계와 인물들의 공간 인식을 중심으로 삶과 죽음의 세계관이 구성되는 양상을 분석하고자 한다. 웹툰 <신과 함께>는 주호민 작가가 2010년부터 2년간 네이버에 연재했던 웹툰으로 <차사본풀이>의 서사구조를 차용하면서도 차사 강림의 기능을 중심으로 이승과 저승의 관계, 그 외 주요 인물들의 공간 인식 양상이라는 두 측면에서 유의미한 변용을 보인다. 이에 주목할 때 두 텍스트 속 삶과 죽음의 세계관은 유사하지만 구분되며 본고는 이를 밝히고자 한다. <차사본풀이>를 위시한 제주 본풀이에서 공간은 이승과 저승, 인간계와 타계를 함축하는 개념이며, 동시에 삶과 죽음의 시간관과 세계관을 포괄하는 요소이므로 이에 주목하는 것은 유의미한 분석이 될 것이다. 웹툰에서는 본풀이에 비해 저승 공간이 예각화되며 구체화되고 이승과 저승은 보다 대비되지만 그 무게감은 동등해진다. 본풀이에서 삶과 죽음이 관념적으로도 연속적이며 따라서 하나의 순리가 지배하는 두 세계 내에서 삶은 죽음을 함축하는 것이었다. 반면 웹툰에서는 삶과 죽음이 보다 명징하게 대립되며 이승 공간의 대립적 거울공간으로서 저승 공간이 제시된다.
This essay will focus on the conception of life and death space described in ChasaBonpuri and its modern translation webtoon With gods(Shingwahamke). ChasaBonpuri is one of korean shamanic narratives in Jeju island and Chase means the a messenger between life and death spaces. This webtoon represents the narrative structure of ChasaBonpuri and also transforms the original narrative form and perspective. It is important to analyze these two aspects of transformation. Firstly, Webtoon With gods tends to focus on the value of death space. There are three functions distinguished in one subject Kanglim in Bonpuri : as a traveler, an officer, and a messenger. However, the function as a traveler in afterworld has been separated from the subject Kanglim and became independent subject in modern webtoon. Secondly, the subjects in Bonpuri exist in their inner space with clear directivity, however, the subjects in webtoon, they are still making their own inner space. Even though both of them accept the similar circulatory conception of time, life and death, we can find the subtle difference in modern transformation. We can name it as the binary conception of life and death in webtoon Withgods, and the fuzzy conception in Chasabonpuri. This is because that the death space has become more equivalent values in modern webtoon Withgods for the reflection of modern times.
