본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 교육대학원의 중등 예비영어교사들의 멀티미디어 활용 실태, 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육에 대한 인식, 멀티미디어 활용 영어수업의 이유 및 문제점, 그리고 멀티미디어 활용 영어수업을 위해 필요한 지식 및 능력을 조사하는 것이다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 교육대학원의 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육 관련 교과목에서 필요한내용, 교수ㆍ학습 방법 및 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 연구 방법으로는 서울 소재 H 및Y 교육대학원 영어교육과에 재학 중인 대학원생 127명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석 방법은 전체 경향을 조사하기 위해 빈도분석을 실시하였고 재학생의 학기별에 따른 연관성을 조사를 위해 교차분석과 카이스퀘어 검정을 실시하였다. 연구 결과는다음과 같다. 예비영어교사들의 54.3%가 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육 관련 과목을 수강하지 않았다. 그러나 예비영어교사들은 전반적으로 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육에 대해긍정적이었으며 그 중요성과 가치를 인식하였다. 적절한 교수ㆍ학습 방법, 학습 활동,최신 정보에 대한 예비교사들의 지식과 경험 그리고 교사교육의 부재가 중등영어 교육현장에서 성공적인 멀티미디어 영어교육 시행에 걸림돌이 되는 것 같다. 따라서 효율적인 멀티미디어 활용 영어수업을 위해서는 멀티미디어 활용 영어교육과 관련된 심도 있고 실제적인 내용과 워크숍 위주의 저작도구 활용, 웹 콘텐츠 활용 및 평가, 다양한 교수ㆍ학습 방법론 과 전략 등이 포함된 강좌를 개설하여 예비교사들에게 제공해야 할 것이다.
The purposes of this study are to investigate: 1) the patterns, contexts and perspectives of pre-service English teachers’ use of multimedia; 2) the causes of problems in the use of multimedia in English classrooms; 3) their competence and knowledge required for ELT (English language teaching) using multimedia; and 4) based on the findings, to suggest some solutions for the successful implementation of multimedia in ELT. A survey research method was adopted. Questionnaires were used to collect the data. The subjects consisted of 127 pre-service English teachers in graduate school of education. The results showed that 54.3% of respondents have not taken MALL (Multimedia- Assisted Language Learning) courses. However, they had positive perspectives in using multimedia and considered it valuable. Lack of knowledge,experience, and proper training of MALL seem to be the major factors in preventing the successful use of multimedia at secondary schools. It is suggested that graduate school of education provides pre-service English teachers with appropriate MALL courses including authoring tools, content evaluation, teaching methodologies and strategies of applying multimedia content to the classroom context, and hands-on practice.
