중세 인도에서 범인도적으로 성행했던 대중적 성격의 종교운동인 박띠(Bhakti)운동을 배경으로 나온 힌디어 박띠문학의 가장 큰 특징은 대중을 위한 문학이었다는 점이다. 따라서 이 글에서는 힌디어 박띠문학의 대중적 성격을 규명하는 데에 초점을 맞추어 박띠가 대중운동으로 발전하여 힌디어 사용지역인 북부 인도의 대중에게 수용되는 과정과 북부 인도의 힌디어 박띠문학의 분류에 관해 간략하게 살펴보고 대표적 시인의 텍스트 분석을 토대로 신에 대한 이해, 박띠의 길과 그 수행방식 그리고 형상화와 문학담당층에 나타난 대중성을 구명하며 대중을 위한 문학으로서 힌디어 박띠문학의 위상을 정립하고자 한다.


As the product of Bhakti Movement, which was the massive religious movement in medieval India, one of the most remarkable traits of medieval Hindi Bhakti literature is that this literature, in nature, was for the populace. So this paper attempts to reveal the nature of medieval Hindi Bhakti literature as the Literature for the populace. After the acceptance of Bhakti Movement by people in northern India many masterpieces of great Bhaka poets belonging to diverse branches of different streams had come out. The above mentioned traits can be traced in their understanding towards the Supreme Divine Being, in the emphasis on the importance of the path of bhakti for the attainment of emamcipation(Mokṣa), in the differences in their ways of performances in the process of devotion and in the adoption of poetic meters and forms prevailed among people as well as reginal languages as poetic language on the basis textual analysis of those great works by great Bhaka poets. Above all, medieval Hindi Bhakti literature was of all kinds of people transcending castes, gender, religion etc. Medieval Hindi Bhakti Literature can be highly evaluated as the Literature for and of the populace
