이 글은 지난 10년간 한국에서 유럽연합을 주제로 발간된 연구결과물을 토대로 연구동향을 살펴보았다. 분석자료는 국회도서관 검색을 통하여 단행본, 학위논문, 학술논문을 수집하였다. 분석의 기준은 연구관심의 추이, 연구주제의 변화, 주요 연구주체이다. 첫째, 연구관심의 추이 관점에서 단행본과 학위논문의 발간은 환경 요인에 의해 영향을 받는 것을 알 수 있다. 단행본은 출판시장의 불경기에 의해, 학위논문은 유럽통합의 불안정성에 의해 일시적으로 급감하는 현상을 보였다. 반면에 학술논문의 발간은 2005년까지 증가하였고, 그 이후 안정세를 보이고 있다. 둘째, 연구주제의 변화 관점에서 보면, 사회관련 주제연구가 가장 많다. 다른 주제의 경우에는 발간형태에 따라 우선순위가 바뀌는데, 단행본에서는 법과 경제가 강세를 보인다. 반면에 법은 학위논문에서, 경제는 학술논문에서 뚜렷한 열세를 보인다. 이에 비해 정치주제는 모든 발간물에서 꾸준하게 다루어지고 있다. 셋째, 주요 연구주체의 관점에서는 유럽연합에 관한 전문저서가 다수 발간되었고, 정부기관도 출판에 적극 참여하고 있다. 학문후속세대 양성에서는 한국외대, 서울대, 연세대 순으로 앞서고 있다. 학술논문 발간기관으로는 유럽학회가 두드러진다.
This paper aims to examine the research trend on the European Union in Korea. The data for the analysis was collected from Korean National Assembly Library and include monographs, theses for degrees, and academic journal articles. The indicators of analysis involves the trend of research interests, the changing research topics and the main research performers. First, from the viewpoint of research interests trend, the data show that monographs and academic theses are very much affected by business recession or events in Europe. The number of master’s and doctorial theses decreased in 2007 due to controversy on European Constitution and Lisbon treaty. The publication of monographs also decreased in 2008 due to economic downturn. On the contrary, journal articles had increased until 2005 and was stabilized thereafter at the level of 100 volumes. Second, from the viewpoint of changing research topics, the data show that social issues are most popular for EU researchers. This is mainly because social issue is very comprehensive and includes a number of sub-topics such as environment, labor, human rights etc. The other issues gain different weight depending on publication forms. Both law and economy are popular topics for monographs whereas law is unpopular for academic theses and economy is unpopular for journal article. Politics are popular for all publication form. Third, from the viewpoint of research performers, there are a number of scholars who published monographs on both general and specific issues of European integration. Government agencies are also active in the publication. Regarding theses for degrees, Korean University of Foreign Studies leads and Seoul National University and Yonsei University follows. Of academic associations, Korean Association of Contemporary European Studies is by far the leading academic community.
