본고의 목적은 세르비아 지역의 근·현대문학작품들에 나타나 있는 구비문학적 요소들을 고찰해보고, 문학사적인 측면에서의 ‘교섭’이라는 시각에서 구비문학이 세르비아의 근·현대문학에 미친 다양한 영향들의 양상과 그 의미를 가늠하고자 하는 것이다. 세르비아 민족의 구비문학을 갈래와 구체적인 내용, 표현방식, 율격에 이르기까지 근·현대문학에 있어 적지 않은 영향을 미친 원천으로 전제하고, 그러한 다양한 측면들을 근·현대문학의 갈래 형성과 지속, 그리고 변이라는 관점에서 고찰하고자 했다. 이는 세르비아 근·현대문학이 형성되는 과정에서 구비문학적 전통이 내재적 혹은 외재적으로 어떠한 영향관계를 형성했는가 하는 점을 살핌으로써, 세르비아를 포함한 여타 민족들의 문학사 전개양상에 있어서도 구비문학과 근·현대문학이라는 문학사적 큰 흐름들이 적지 않은 영향관계 속에 놓여있었음을 간접적으로 증명하는 본보기로 삼을 수 있다. 구 유고지역의 경우 정형화된 시작품이 보편화되어 있던 근대문학기를 지나 현대문학기에 접어들면서, 개별 작가에 따라 차이는 있겠지만, 서유럽 운문문학의 영향과 문단(文壇)의 내적인 변화로 인해 내용과 형식에 있어서 작가의 시적자유가 최대한 허용되는 등의 전면적인 변화를 맞게 된다. 그럼에도 불구하고 구 유고지역의 시문학 전통, 즉 구비시가의 전통을 계승하고자 하는 일련의 움직임들이 전혀 없었던 것은 아니다. 문학사전개에 있어 구비문학적 특징들을 가장 선명하게 포괄하고 있는 운문문학 작품들은 낭만주의 문학시대에 큰 흐름을 이루며 등장하는데, 이들 운문작품들은 언어적 표현의 방식이나 율격의 형식과 같은 외적인 측면뿐만 아니라 모티프나 주제와 같은 내적인 측면에서도 구비문학의 특징들을 광범위하게 수용하고 있다. 예를 들면, 세르비아의 낭만주의 시인인 브랑코 라디쳬비치, 쥬라 약쉬치, 요반 요바노비치 즈마이, 라자 코스티치 등을 꼽을 수 있다. 서사적 내용을 짧지 않은 길이로 노래하는 구비서사민요는 개인의 삶의 과정과 질곡을 절실하게 노래할 수 있고, 민중들의 공통된 관심사를 누구나 공감할 수 있는 서사적 내용으로 구성하여 노래할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 이들 구 유고지역 낭만주의 운문작가들의 작품들이 관심을 끄는 것은 오랜 세월 노동자․농민들 사이에서 구전되어 온 구비서사민요와 이들 작가들의 작품들이 직․간접적으로 연결되고 있을 가능성이 있다. 결론적으로 세르비아의 근․현대 운문문학이 산문문학에 비해 구비문학과 보다 형식적인 측면에서 관련을 갖고 있다고 한다면, 산문문학은 주제구현이나 삽화, 정신적 측면에 있어서의 구비문학적 전통의 계승과 같은 내용적 측면과 깊은 연관을 맺고 있다고 할 수 있다.

There was a domain in which the vernacular was widely used in medieval literacy in the Serbian lands. And in the final decades of the 18th century and early decades of the 19th century, the foundation for a new Serbian culture and literature was being laid - compendiums of the basic scientific disciplines were written, and new literary genres were introduced (novels, drama, essays, various poetic forms). Of all of them, the novel was to have the greatest influence. The preconditions of Serbian romanticism were Vuk Karadžić's language reform, folk poetry, and the European influence. While prose was inclined toward pathos and lyrical sensitivity, the ideals of the highest erudition, whose models were found in classical literature, prevailed in poetry. In the first half of the 19th century, the domain of cultural activity began to spread. After two liberation uprisings literature began to develop in Serbia, and later in Montenegro, which had been partially liberated by the end of the 17th century. Certain entirely new phenomena found expression in these regions - a folk, patriarchal culture, collective creative work, and oral poetry. The purpose of this paper is to inquire into the important factor of the Serbian oral literature and to study various influences and meanings which are contributed to modern and contemporary literatures by the oral literature. With the source of influences to the Serbian modern and contemporary literature from genres, concrete contents, formulae for expressions and rules of versifications, I've considered in-depth various sides of that.
