The purpose of this study was to examine whether the web-based listening strategy instruction would positively affect listening abilities of college students. The subjects were consisted of 30 college students who attended a residential English camp run by the language institute affiliated with a university. The control group studied in a regular classroom whereas the experimental group received strategy instruction in a language lab. The findings of the study indicated as follows: (1) the six-week-long strategy instruction seemed too short to greatly improve students listening abilities; (2) the strategy instruction proved to be effective when students were dealing with expository speeches rather than dialogues; (3) the strategy instruction was effective when students were working on certain listening tasks, such as multiple-choice tests and fill in the blanks.
