스파이(spy)라는 단어는 정보원, 간첩 또는 정보활동을 하다는 뜻을가지고 있다. 그러므로 첩보영화(spy film)라는 명칭은 인물과 그의활동을 중심으로 전개되는 서사물을 지칭한다. 한국에서의 첩보영화는 1960년대 <007> 시리즈의 유행과 반공주의가 접목되면서 폭발적으로 제작되다가 점점 주춤해지고, 2000년대 후반에 들어서주목받는 첩보영화들이 제작되기 시작하였다. <의형제>(2010), <베를린>(2012), <은밀하게 위대하게>(2013) 등을통해 분석한 최근 첩보영화의 경향은 첫째, 국가 이데올로기가 사라지고 가족중심으로 변화되었다는 것이다. 주인공들을 간첩이 될수밖에 없는 이유는 국가에 대한 충성심이 아니라 가족을 지키기 위한 최선의 방법이었다. 그러므로 이전의 간첩들에게서 보이는목적의식이나 남한사회에 대한 거부감을 발견할 수 없다. 둘째, 탈전형적인 남성상의 경향을 지닌 입체적 간첩이 등장하였다는 것이다. 이러한 특징들은 탈냉전시대를 배경으로 하고 있다고 볼 수 있는데, 영화의 결말에 가서는 분단에 대한 극복되지 못한 트라우마가짙게 드러난다. 이것은 한국첩보영화가 갖는 특징이며 한계이다. 인간적이었던 간첩은 그가 가지고 있는 위험성 때문에 결국 남한사회에서 퇴장하게 된다. 또한 국정원에 대한 불신이 드러나며 “국가”가 더 이상 ‘우리’를 묶어주고 보호해주지 못하리라는 불안감을반영한다. 결국 국가의 역할이 희미해진 지금 공존과 위협이라는간첩에 대한 양가적인 감정은 탈냉전시기에 여전히 분단의 시대를살고 있는 우리들의 자화상이다.
The term ‘spy’ refers to a secret agent or his/her espionage. The term ‘spy film genre’ is used to call a narrative which mainly deals with the subject of spy and espionage. In Korea, along with the popularity of <007> series and the emphasis on anti-communism, there was a tremendous passing boom of making spy film in 1960s. Then it was not until late 2000s that the notable spy films such as <Secret Reunion>(2010), <The Berlin File>(2012), <Secretly, Greatly>(2013) were produced. The analysis of these films shows some noteworthy aspects of recent spy films. First, there is a transition of main conflict from the struggle over ideology between South and North to the struggle for protecting their family. The spies in these films don't fight for their nation but for their family; they are forced to become spies by their own government taking their family hostage. Therefore, they don't show much hostility towards South Korea. Second, they are the round characters who have perfect body and humanity. These aspects show our post-Cold War world, and at the end of the film it shows that Trauma of Division still exists. This is the characteristic of Koran spy films, and also the limitation. The humane spy need to make his exit from the South because he is the potential danger. And the negative description of National Intelligence Sevice of the South reflects that we have nervousness of not being protected by the government. Therefore, the ambivalent image towards the spy is the self portrait of us who still live the era of division in this post-Cold War world.
