고려시대에 들어와 과거 巫君의 역할은 사라지고 八關會마저도 淫祀로 취급되기도 하였다. 그러나 개인 및 공동체적 기능을 통해 巫意識이 상존하고 있어서 12세기 무렵에는 이미 정형화된 무교의례가 존재하였고 이후 지속되었다는 사실은 神觀은 물론 自然觀까지도 변화하지 않았음을 나타낸다. 이를 근거로 할 때 무교에서의 자연관은 첫째, 영혼의 재생을 믿는 생명순환을 뜻하며, 둘째, 폭넓은 조상개념을 바탕으로 하는 인간중심적이며, 셋째, 신령(자연)과 인간은 공존하는 존재로서의 공생적 자연관에 기초하고 있으며, 넷째, 조상과 자손이 만나고 신령의 덕담과 가호를 받아 天․地․人 상호간의 화해를 추구하는 조화에 바탕을 두고 있다고 하겠다. 당초 유교의례를 받아들인 것은 天命사상을 통해 王權을 하늘과 연계시켜 신성화함으로써 집권체제를 강화하고 이를 통해 王道政治를 이루고자 한 것이었다. 아울러 禮制를 뒷받침하기 위한 「月令」의 보급이 추진되었는데, 이는 자연을 이해하고 생존의 수단을 개척하기 위한 것으로서 유교의 農本主義를 받아들임과 동시에 백성들에게 중국의 자연관을 이해시키는 과정이기도 하였다. 그러나 巫․儒는 조상숭배라든가 자연숭배라는 점에서 공동의 정신적 토대를 이루고 있음에도 불구하고, 유교에서의 신(자연)은 인간에게 상벌을 내릴 수 있는 존재로서, 무교에서 나타나는, 늘 인간과 이웃하면서 공존하는 그런 존재가 아니었다. 그 결과 양자 간에는 자연관의 차이로 인한 갈등구조가 형성되었다.


When the Kingdom of Goryo began, the role of the shaman king was abrogated and Palguanhoe(八關會) was often treated as a wrongly dedicated ritual(淫祀). However, Korean Shamanism subsisted among both individuals and communities, as its rituals influenced practices in the 12th century. I think the fact that such rituals had been maintained ever afterward means views of god and nature in Korean Shamanism had not changed. Thus, we may infer that the views of nature in Korean Shamanism are as in the flowing. Firstly, this implies that life cycling with believing in the relief of the soul. Secondly, it is subjected to a anthropocentric view of nature based on the ancestor in a broad sense. Thirdly, it is based on the symbiotic relationship between god and human beings, and fourthly it is founded on harmony that pursues reconciliation among heaven, earth, and man. Originally, the reasons for the reception of Confucian rituals were to establish a centralized state and establish politics by the rule of right(王道政治) through making holy the royal authority by linking it with the mandate of heaven. At that time, the Goryo Dynasty continued to popularize the Wolryung(月令, monthly duty and prohibition) in order to support the ritual system. This action was implemented to understand nature and to cultivate a way of life. It established the course by which the state would accept Confucian physiocracy and make people understand the Chinese view of nature. Korean Shamanism and Confucianism were based on the same spiritual principles, as they both worshipped ancestors and nature. In spite of this fact, god (or nature) in Confucianism did not coexist with human beings, as can be seen in Korean Shamanism; instead, god is the entity who can punish human beings. As the result of this, a complicated structure was formed between Korean Shamanism and Confucianism due to the different views of nature.
