본 연구는 한국 대학원에서 영어로 수업하는 한국학 교육의 현재 상황과 향후 기대되는 과정들을 주로 교육목적, 인적자원, 교과과정, 운영에 초점을 맞추었다. 현재 한국에서의 국제적인 한국학 교육 상황을 한국정부가 지원하는 한국학 아카데미의 한국학대학원의 프로그램에 대해 논의할 것이다. 이 논문의 주제에 관련된 자료들과 저자가 영어로 한국학을 가르치며 얻은 경험을 바탕으로 이 논문의 주제를 한국 이외에 한국학 연구가 가장 활발히 이루어지고 있는 북미의 프로그램과 비교된 관점으로 연구할 것이다. 한편으로, 이 연구가 한국과 외국에서 한국학을 국제적으로 꽃피울 대학원 학생들의 교육과정에 기여했으면 하는 바이다.
This research aims at examining the present state of the education of Korean Studies taught in English in the graduate schools of Korean universities and its prospective courses in the future, primarily focusing on educational purposes, human resources, curricula, and administration. The status quo of the education of international Korean Studies in contemporary Korea will be discussed around the Program of International Korean Studies in the Graduate School of Korean Studies at The Academy of Korean Studies, home of Korean Studies supported by the Korean government. Based on materials relevant to the topics of concern in this paper and the author's personal experience in teaching courses on Korean Studies in English, the theme of this paper will be examined from a comparative perspective with the corresponding programs of North America, where Korean Studies has been taught most actively outside of Korea. This research hopes contribute, in part, to the establishment of a curriculum to educate graduate students who will flourish internationally in the field of Korean Studies both at home and abroad.
