이 연구는 지역사회 관계 및 경찰활동이 시민들의 경찰만족도에 미치는 영향에대하여 경찰관과의 접촉경험을 매개로 하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 시민만족도는 거주 지역 내의 경찰관에 대한 접근성, 가시성 그리고 대응성에 대한 것으로, 시민들의 평가를 통한 경찰의 치안서비스 제고방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현재 서울에 거주하는 성인남녀(n=634)의 응답자료에 대하여 기술통계 및 변인 간 관계들을 파악하였다. 그리고 만족도에 영향을 미치는 지역사회 관계와 경찰활동 및 접촉경험 간의 영향관계는 구조방정식모형을 통해 AMOS 19.0으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 경로모형을 통하여 지역사회 관계 및 지역사회 경찰활동은 접근성가시성, 대응성에 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 지역사회관계와 경찰활동이 우호적 또는 적극적일수록 시민만족도가 높은 것으로 판단되었다. 그리고 경찰관과의 접촉경험은 접근성과 대응성에만 유의미한 결과를 보였다. 특히, 긍정적 접촉이 많을수록 만족도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 다만, 가시성에 대한 영향은 유의미하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 경찰관이 최일선에서 시민과 대응하며 치안서비스의 품질을 높이고, 경찰활동의 효과성을 극대화하기 위하여 지역사회 관계 및 경찰활동에 대한 다양한노력들이 필요한 것으로 보인다. 이 연구는 과거 경찰서비스에 대한 만족도 연구들이 서비스에 대한 평가 제시한 것에 비하여, 만족도에 영향을 미치는 관계들을밝혔다는 데에 의의를 둔다.
This study is to exam on which community relations with residents and community policing influence on local residents' satisfaction from police, through experience of contact with police as the mediation effect. Local residents'satisfaction include accessibility, visibility and responsiveness for community policing. The main purpose of the study is to enhance policing service based on the civil evaluation. For doing that, it conducted survey on those in Seoul, the total number of 634,and then applied the data to the structural equation model by using SPSS 18.0 and LISREL 8.50. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were used in order to analyse general characteristics and relations. In addition, the structural equation model was applied to analyse whether community relations with residents,community policing and experience of contact with police have effects on residents' satisfaction from policing. The result from the path model indicated that community relations with residents and community policing have a positive effect(+) on accessibility, visibility and responsiveness. Thus, it means the better community relations and community policing these are, the higher level of local residents's satisfaction it will appear. Additionally, experience of contact with police had effects on accessibility and responsiveness, except for visibility. Especially, the level of local resident's satisfaction increased as the number of positive contacts with police was higher.
