이토 게이카쿠(伊藤計劃)는 『하모니』에서 완전 의료복지가 구현된 근미래를 그려내고 있다. 하지만 이 사회가 유토피아인 것은 아니며 그 사회 속 주인공들은 출구없는 ‘폐쇄감’에 사로잡혀 있다. 이러한 폐쇄감은 2천년대 초반 일본 사회의 지배적인 문화 코드들인 ‘세카이계’나 ‘휴대폰 소설’들에도 나타나는 것이지만, 이토는 그러한 문화코드들이 ‘사회’를 그리지 않는다는 점에서 반대하며, 『하모니』에서는 철저히 ‘사회’를 그려나간다. 그 사회는 어떠한 모습인가? 그것은 9․11 이후 가속화하고 있는 정보 테크놀로지의 발달 속에서 ‘환경관리형’ 권력이 전면화한 사회이다. 우리가 현재 살고 있는 ‘디지털 신자유주의’ 체제 하에서는 개인의 정보를 제공하는 대신에 ‘안전’을 얻는다는 암묵적인 합의를 형성하고 있는데, 이러한 방향은 심각한 ‘인간성’ 훼손으로 연결된다. 즉 모든 인간의 활동이 ‘프랙털화’하여 ‘외주’에 맡겨지는 ‘디지털 신자유주의’의 방향은 빅데이터 등을 이용하여 ‘예측가능한 인간’을 상정하게 되는데, 이것은 그 표준편차에서 벗어나는 인간을 제외하고, 심지어 인간의 행동을 강제하게 된다. 이것이 ‘폐쇄감’을 낳게 되는 것이다. 또한 이러한 방향은 인간의 행위뿐만 아니라, ‘정신’까지도 강제할 수 있는 것으로서, 이 사회는 ‘병적’인 것으로 판단되는 인간 정신의 부분을 육체적, 물리적으로 제어해 갈 것이라고 이토는 예측한다. 이와 같은 인간 ‘의지’의 제어는 ‘포스트휴먼’적인 상상력으로서 이러한 디스토피아적인 예측은 앞으로 현실의 변화 과정 속에서 신중히 살펴보아야 할 부분일 것이다.
Project Ito portrays a near future society in Harmony in which complete medical welfare is finished up. However this society is not a Utopia, and main characters in the novel are contained in a sense of ‘closure’. This sense of closure is also seen in those ‘Sekaikei’ culture, or ‘Keitai Shosetu’ (Mobile phone novels) of contemporary Japanese popular culture, and Ito negated those cultural codes because society is not portrayed in those cultures. Instead Ito portrays society thoroughly in Harmony. What kind of society is that? Ito shows us a society of ‘environment management power’, which has been presented in the development of information technology after 9/11. In this society, people get safety, instead of giving up private informations. As a result, people get controlled more and more by informations, and this tendency damages the concept of ‘human-being’ who has free will to behave oneself. People behave only in the limit of predictability of 'Big-data' of digital new liberalism. Also in this society, the way of controlling human behavior will be adopted to the way of controlling human mentality, or free will. If somebody resists to such a complete medical welfare society and the society think him ill and unadapted, that society will go to the way of controlling him mentally as well as physically. This is a post-human imagination, presented by Project Ito in Harmony.
