최근의 사회는 급변하고 있으며 학교에서도 대내외적인 환경의 변화가 일어나고 있다. 오늘날 학교장 리더십은 자율과 책임 위주로 학교를 민주적, 참여적 의사결정을 이끌어 내야하는 비전과 혁신의 안내자라는 적극적인 역할이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 문제인식에서 학교장의 리더십 개념, 변천과정을 알아보고 21세기 학교장 리더십 환경은 어떠한지? 그리고 새로운 환경에 적응하기 위해 주도적으로 학교를 이끌어 갈 학교장 리더십의 새로운 패러다임은 무엇인가에 대해 탐색하였다. 학교장의 리더십은 기존의 전통적인 개념에서 벗어나 새로운 시대가 요구하는 리더의 역할을 강조하고 있다. 학교장의 책임과 역할은 다양한 변화에 대응하여 학교장의 자질과 역할이 새로운 각도에서 조명되고 있다. 학교의 변화와 교육의 질 개선에 대한 사명감과 열정, 전문지식과 경험을 지닌 사람이 학교장의 역할을 수행하면서 새로운 리더십을 발휘 할 때 주어진 과업에 도달할 수 있는 것이다. 새로운 리더십은 학교의 변화를 이끌고 학생, 학부모, 교사, 지역사회가 요구하는 학교로 거듭 날 것이다. 학교에서 단위학교 책임경영제의 실질적인 변화를 이끌어 내고 현장에 정착시키려면 학교장에게 많은 권한과 적극적인 지원을 부여해야 한다. 전문성과 능력을 가진 인물이 학교장직에 진출할 수 있도록 교장임용제도를 개선해야 한다. 무엇보다 더 학교장 스스로 환경변화를 인식하고 변화하려는 노력과 실천을 통해서만이 새로운 리더십을 창출하여 낼 수 있다. 시대를 앞서 갈 수 있는 학교장의 새로운 리더십 패러다임이 적실히 요구되고 있는 것이다.
The recent community is changing rapidly as well as the domestic and external environment of the school. If the past leadership of the principal were through directions, control-oriented management of the school and by the command leadership in decision making autonomy, these days it is mainly the responsibility on how the school is democratic and how much it participates leading the decision making vision and innovation that is a growing requiring guide. We searched on how these problems are recognized in the concept of school leadership, school environment, learn the history of the changing process and to adapt to the new environmental initiative that will lead to the school principal's new paradigm of leadership. Also the changes in school and improvement of the qualities of education will be reached with the commitment and enthusiasm, expertise and experience with the principal's role. The school's principal should recognize the environmental changes and try themselves to create a new leadership between them. This new leadership to change the school's leading students, parents, teachers, community schools are required to me repeatedly. In conclusion, the new leadership of the Director of the paradigm is needed.
