AB - Politeness is a sociopragmatic phenomenon and the success of interpersonal communication depends, in general, on the appropriate use of its strategies. In this study we address the role of verbal politeness and its importance in the Spanish education as a foreign language, because it is also necessary to learn to speak properly according to circumstance and context of communication for the acquisition of communicative competence. Therefore, we reflect on the use of politeness in teaching Spanish as well as exemplifying its strategies.
