본고의 목적은 부산지역 16개 구군의 구비설화 이야기꾼을 대상으로 이야기꾼과 관련된 전반적인 현황을 검토하고 그에 따른 특징적 면모를 고찰하는 것이다. 기존 논의를 통해 특정 지역의 개별적 이야기꾼에 관한 연구는 어느 정도 축적되었으나 광범위한 지역의 보편적 이야기꾼 집단에 관한 논의는 찾기 어려웠다. 특히 부산지역 구비설화의 이야기꾼에 관해서는 현재까지 전혀 논의되지 않았다. 본고의 논의를 통하여 다음과 같은 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. 부산지역 구비설화의 연행양상에서는 이야기꾼의 여성 편중 현상이 두드러짐과 설화에 비해 민요의 편중성이 강함을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 남성 이야기꾼을 만나기 어려운 구연환경에서 기인한다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 이야기꾼의 구연력이 고정적이지 못하고 가변적임을 알 수 있었다. 이는 의식 있고 유능한 이야기꾼보다 일시적인 이야기꾼이 많이 확인된 결과라 할 수 있다. 그리고 이야기의 유형이 가족담, 도깨비담, 동물담, 지명유래담 등으로 한정되어 있음도 확인하였다. 전국적인 광포성을 보이는 이인담이나 저승담, 지혜담 등이 많이 조사되지 않은 점도 특징이다. 아울러 부산이라는 로컬적 특성을 반영하듯 이야기꾼의 출생지가 비부산권이 강세인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 부산지역의 역사적, 지리적, 문화적 특수성에 기인한 결과라 할 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 전반적인 현황에 따른 부산지역 구비설화 이야기꾼의 특징적 면모는 다음과 같다. 우선, 이야기판이 형성되는 메커니즘과 관련하여 이야기꾼과 조사자 및 청중의 관계, 이야기꾼과 조사자의 관계가 결코 좋은 여건이 조성되어 있지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이야기꾼 자체가 지니는 특징으로는, 현재 그들의 생활 세계는 전통적 방식의 구비설화를 구연할만한 상황이 아니므로 진정한 이야기의 세대가 아니라고 할 수 있다는 점이다. 아울러 그들은 유동사회 속에서 구심력이 약화되어 가족담에 대한 구연력이 상대적으로 강함을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 직접화법보다는 간접화법을 통한 구연 경향이 강함도 부산지역 이야기꾼의 특징적 면모라 할 수 있을 것이다.
