목은 이색은 우왕 5년 5월부터 8월까지 우왕의 사부로서 서연에서 『논어』 「태백」편을 진강하였다. 목은은 텍스트의 내용에 대한 강의와 함께 어린 우왕의 눈높이에 맞추어 군왕으로서의 실천 방향을 고려한 강의를 진행하였다. 목은의 서연 진강시의 특징은 시의 제목에서 시인의 처지와 당시의 정황이 구체적으로 제시하고 있다는 점과, 시의 본문에서 스스로에 대한 반성이나 곤혹감 등을 보여준다는 점이다. 목은의 서연 진강시에 나타나는 교육방법상의 특성은 다음과 같다. 즉 목은은 텍스트의 내용 중에서 강조해야 할 바와 소홀히 할 바를 구별하는 모습을 보여주고 있고, 피교육자를 고려한 맞춤형 교육을 실시하고 있으며, 구체적 사례에 제한된 설명보다 일반화를 통한 폭넓은 교양의 확보를 추구하고 있다. 서연의 철강(輟講)에는 국가적 중대사나 공적인 회합으로 인한 경우, 서연관의 개인 사정에 의한 경우, 수강자의 개인 사정 등의 사유가 있었다. 이처럼 국왕의 경전 강의마저 중단케 하는 공적이나 사적인 다양한 사유를 통해 고금을 막론하고 예정된 행사나 예측할 수 없는 인간 사회의 다기한 사건의 일면을 엿볼 수 있다.
The objective of this thesis is to make a close study on the poems composed by Mokeun(牧隱) Lee Saek(李穡) at the Royal Lecturing Sessions(書筵). Lee Saek, the teacher to the King Woo(禑王), had lectured the meanings of passages from the <Taebaek(泰伯)> chapter in the Analects of Confucius(『論語』) for five months in 1379. He taught young King Woo the passages of the <Taebaek> chapter, and the further ruling King's dynamic meanings. The titles of the poems composed by Lee Saek at the Royal Lecturing Sessions had several informations like not only the poet's private schedule and life style, emotional condition, but also the concrete social and political situation; the bodies of the poems had the self-reflection, embarrassment, etc. Through these poems we can find out the characteristics of Lee Saek's teaching methods at the Royal Lecturing Sessions. To make a long story short, he distinguished the important things from the others, he provided the King with a fit education at the level of young King Woo’s eyes, and he had a good look for the general explanations rather than an individual one. The reasons of skipping a lecture were an national important affair or an urgent conference, the lecturer's private condition, and the King's private condition as a educatee, etc.
