고려후기 정안의 가계는 지속적으로 관료가 배출되고 재상급 인물이 등장하게 되면서 문벌적 지위에 가까운 세력기반을 갖추고 있었다. 철원최씨, 정안임씨 등과 통혼권을 형성하고, 당시 최씨정권의 집정과 혼인관계를 맺음으로써 정치적, 경제적 기반을 강화할 수 있었다. 정안은 과거로 출사하여 진주목 지방관, 국자좨주, 지문하성사 등 고위직 벼슬을 지냈다. 그러나 고종 38년 5월 당시 무인집정 최항에 의해 살해되기까지 벼슬 길에 있었던 기간은 10년이 채 되지 않으며, 상당 기간 낙향하여 활동하였다. 낙향 시기 정안의 불교 활동은 괄목할만했다. 진각국사 慧諶과 교류하면서 불교 신앙을 고양시켰고, 이를 바탕으로 사찰을 창건하거나 중수했으며, 법회를 개최하여 지역 불교의 활성화를 꾀하였다. 대장경 판각 사업에 맞춰 사재를 털어 상당량의 대장경을 간행한 것은 그의 불교 활동의 정점을 보여준 것이라 할 수 있다. 정안이 낙향하여 불교 활동을 벌인 공간과 관련하여 당시 행정구역으로서 남해현을 지목해 왔다. 그러나 정안은 그의 본관지인 하동군을 주 활동 공간으로 삼고 점차 진주 등 그 인근 지역으로 넓히고 있었던 것으로 보는 것이 타당할 것이다.
This article aims to describe the Jeong An’s political activities and the activities of the Buddhist in regime Choi(崔) time. In addition, we reviewed with respect to Namhae(南海) known as the area where Jeong An activities. Family of Jeong An was continuously discharged bureaucracy, his family had the position as noble family in the late Goryeo Dynasty. Moreover, by marriage relationship with Choi regime it could strengthen the political and economic foundation of the family. Jeong An became official by passing the state examination and served as senior officials from local officials to the central bureaucracy. But he was in the period crest road has not been less than 10 years, his political road was not smooth. After retiring, Jeong An was hard for Buddhist activities. Through interchange with Hyesim(慧諶), he was intensifying his Buddhist beliefs. Based on this, he built the temple and was repaired, and held a memorial service was seeking to enable the local Buddhists. According to the Tripitaka published in the country, he published a significant amount of Tripitaka to spend personal property, it may be said showed the height of his Buddhist activities. People are thought that Jeong An were Buddhist activities in Namhaehyeon(南海縣). But Jeong An was active around the Hadong(河東) County area, increasingly enlarged with neighboring Namhaehyeon and Gonmyeonghyeon(昆明縣).
