As the demands for sports and sports service have increased with enhancement of national income and leisure time, expansion of health-oriented lifestyle and penetration of ubiquitous environment, the sports industry has marked sustainable growth trend. In tandem with such trend, the domestic sports market as well as the global market have recorded rapid development tendency. In particular, the growth of event market centering on professional sports is remarkable. With targets of pursuing the win-win of daily life sports and elite sports, satisfying the sports demands and enhancing the competitiveness of sports industry, the Government has developed two sub-targets of market expansion and competitiveness enhancement; but strategies for competitiveness enhancement of the sports industry are not sophisticated enough in general so that it is necessary to develop concrete plans for it. In the case of the U.S., the sports industry is categorized into goods category model, sports activity model and economic effect model while in the case of Korea, it is classified into sports facility business, sports goods business and sports service business. The U.S. has swept the global sports market through technology development of the private enterprises with strategic supports from the government; but Korea has weak supports from the Government and technology development. To resolve such issue, the strategic assistance from the Government should be expanded and various sports technology development should be made with concerted efforts from the Government and private sector so as to enhance the status of the Korean market in the middle of the rapidly changing global sports market.
