Goam Seowon(考巖書院) was established in 1694 at Jeongeup, Jeolla-do for commemorating Song Si-yeol. At the time the central government opposed to establishing Seowon, but Seo-In who lived in the center and province cooperated with each other and established it for him once his political honor had been recovered. Especially, many of Seo-In in Gyeonggi area participated in and supported Goam Seowon construction. It seems that Seo-In were concentrated politically in the course of it. In the following year(1695) after Seowon construction, Confucian who resided in Jeolla-do requested King Sukjong to give a name to Seowon. So he named it Goam and wrote the letters on the signboard for himself. The name of Goam have originated from ‘Gojung’ where Zhu Zi stayed and teached. This means that Song Si-yeol’s authority became comparable with Zhu Zi’s. But Goam Seowon’s status was changed according to political situation. After the accession of King Kyoungjong, it became not able to use its name since Noron, the faction of Seo-In, confronted the political crisis. But as Noron held the control of political power after King Youngjo ascended to the throne, it became recovered its honor and used the Seowon’s name again. It appears that this reconfirms the relationship between Goam Seowon and Noron. Since then, Noron supported it with the zeal. Yi Jae and Kim Won-hang, the scholars of Noron, were especially appointed to the principal of it, and the lecture in it became active under the their auspices. Many of Confucian in the local area participated in the lecture. This helped that the Confucian in Honam actively associated with Noron who lived in Gyeonggi area.
