지금까지 원측에 대한 연구는 주로 그의 사상을 밝히는데 주력하였다. 이러한 부분에 대한 연구도 물론 중요하다. 그러나 원측의 유식사상이 당시 서로 대립하고 있던 사상계의 갈등을 어떻게 화쟁(和諍)시켜 나갔는지도 밝혀져야 할 것이다. 이에 본고에서 밝힌 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 당시 서로 대립하고 있던 중관불교와 유식불교의 사상적 대립을 원측은 어떻게 조화시켜나갔는지를 살폈다. 그 결과 원측은 중관이나 유식불교는 모두 중생을 불교로 인도하는 가르침임을 인정하였다. 나아가 중관과 유식불교의 가르침은 중생을 구제하는 측면에서 볼 때, 우열의 차이가 없다는 점을 강조하였다. 둘째, 현장 이전의 유식사상과 현장의 유식사상이 추구하는 입장의 차이를 원측은 어떻게 조화시켜 나갔는지를 검토하였다. 현장 이전의 유식불교에서 중생은 누구나 부처가 될 수 있다는 입장을 따랐다. 그런데 현장의 유식불교에서는 부처가 될 수 없는 중생을 설정하려고 하였다. 이때 원측은 중생에게 차별이 있음을 부정하지는 않았다. 하지만 부처가 될 수 없는 존재를 설정하는데에는 반대하였다. 결국 원측의 입장은, 중생은 누구나 부처가 될 수 있다는 입장을 따랐음을 알 수 있다.


Until now, research for Wonchuek(圓測) primarily focused on clarifying his ideology. Of course this research is important. But it have to be clarified how Wonchuek’s Vijñana-vada thought was able to do Harmonizing-disputations(和諍) for a feud between the opposing ideologies at that time. Hereupon, the following contents are summarize of this manuscript. First, it considered what did Wonchuek(圓測) do to harmonize ideology conflicts between Mādhyamika buddhism and Vijñana-vada Buddhism. In the result, Wonchuek defined that both buddhism were all the same as a dogma to lead people to buddhism. Moreover, he stressed that their is no relative merits in the view point of save mankind between the dogma of both Mādhyamika and Vijñana-vada Buddhism. Second, it discussed how Wonchuek harmonized the attitude difference between Vijñana-vada thought before Hyeonjang(玄奘) and Vijñana-vada thought of Hyeonjang. Vijñana-vada Buddhism before Hyeonjang followed the attitued that believed everyone could be Buddha. However, Vijñana-vada Buddhism of Hyeonjang(玄奘) tried to establish a mankind who could not be able to be Buddha. At that time, Wonchuek didn't deny there is discrimination among mankind. But he denied to establish the existence that was unable to be budda. Finally, this shows that Wonchuek's position was following the idea about every one could be Buddha.
