梅山 李夏鎭(仁祖 6~肅宗 8, 1628년~1682년)과 玉洞 李(顯宗 3~景宗 3, 1662년~1723년)의 금강산 기행은 遊山과 紀行이 문인학자들의 보편적 수양 방편이자 삶의 방식으로 자리 잡았던 시기에 이루어졌다. 매산의 금강산 기행은 그의 나이 37세 되던 顯宗 5년(1664) 8월 9일부터 대략 한 달 정도의 기간동안 행해졌고, 옥동의 금강산 기행은 그의 나이 38세 되던 肅宗 26년(1700) 8월 17일부터 그해 10월 12일까지 행해졌다.이 기간동안 매산은 모두 63首의 시와 일기체 기행문을 지어 그의 문집 3권 속에 金剛途路記로 남겼고, 옥동은 모두 188수의 시와 일기체 기행문을 지어 東遊錄으로 엮었고, 이후 이 경험을 바탕으로 東遊篇을 지었다. 매산의 금강산 기행이 불과 한 달 남짓이었고, 옥동의 기행 기간이 57일 밖에 되지 않았지만 이렇게 많은 詩文을 남겼다는 것에서 볼 때, 이들에게 금강산 기행은 상당히 강렬한 경험이자 문학적 자극이 되었다고 생각된다.이런 매산과 옥동의 紀行은 이전 시기 紀行을 개인의 내면 수양을 위한 방편으로 여겼던 인식에서 완전히 벗어나지 못했고, 이에 따라 그들의 詩文도 대상 경물을 있는 그대로 묘사하지 못하고 그들의 경험 영역 속에서 진실한 모습이라 생각하고 있는 대상의 모습을 옮겨 놓는 주관적 사실성을 주된 표현 방법으로 택하고 있다는 한계를 보여준다. 하지만 이런 한계에도 불구하고 매산과 옥동의 紀行 詩文은 조선후기 당대에 존재하고 있었던 가문 내부의 遊山과 紀行 그리고 紀行詩文의 전통을 살펴볼 수 있게 한다는 점에서 분명한 의미를 가지는 것이라 할 수 있다.이런 매산과 옥동의 기행 시문이 보여주는 모습은 조선 후기 가학의 전승과 영향을 살펴보기 위한 하나의 단서로 작용할 수 있지 않을까 생각한다.

MaeSan and Eokdong's Kumkang mountain traveler's journal was not the same general traveler's journal of other's. They left journey to Kumkang mountain for his self-culture, his self study and his creative writing. Their Kumkang mountain traveler's journal prose described all the scenary of the season in the order and objective description. This objective description made it possible to express any object very experienced and realistic way. Also Their poetry made it possible any object to internalization and to contemplate, and then expressed and showed the temperate feeling in the poetry come from the contemplate, but the feeling of writer was not disclosed in the poetry. The schedule of Eokdong's Kumkang mountain journey and his father Maesan's Kumkang mountain traveling was similar, and Eokdong's father Maesan also wrote diary style traveler's journey ‘Kumkangdoroki’. By this reason, They followed the general way for culture in Namin family. So the value of their traveler's journey ‘Kumkangdoroki’, ‘Dongyoorok’ and ‘Dongyoopeon’ is that they gave a chance to study their literature world and also showed the possibility to study the traveler's journey literature in Namin family of the Chosun dynasty.
