In this paper, I investigated the musical characteristics of Sinminyo composed by Kim Songgyu during the Japanese colonial period. I analyzed the musical text in the several pieces of Kim Songgyu such as Danpungje․Cholichunshaek. I eluminated how these pieces were composed successfully, which were mixed with the Korean folk song’s idiom and Jazz style using blue note. Kim’s works were unique and complete unlike common Sinminyo and popular songs. Especially the process and result of hybridization between Korean traditional material and western material was excellent, which was used the co-existence major-minor modality using borrowed note or chord or blue note. His musical style would be a historical model to the decedent composers who try to compose hybrid music such as Gugakgayo and fusion-gugak.
