본 논문은 한국음악을 어떻게 연구할 것인가에 대한 방법론적인 내용에 관한 연구이다. 본론에서는 한국음악 연구방법의 의미는 무엇인가에 대하여 살펴보았으며, 또한 한국음악 연구방법의 영역은 어떻게 분류되는가와 영역별 연구내용들은 어떤 것이 있는가에 대한 내용을 서술하였다. 한국음악학 연구방법은 한국적 연구방법을 구축해야하며, 한국적 연구방법을 구축하기위한 방안으로 학문 간의 경계를 허무는 통섭의 시각과 총체적 연구의 진행을 도모해야한다. 전체와 각 개체간의 상관성의 연결고리를 중요시하는 한국적 사고방식은 개별적 존재와 독립성을 중시하는 서양식 사고방식과는 차별성이 있다. 이러한 차별성을 인정하고 한국인의 사고방식에 기인한 한국음악학의 연구방법을 모색해야한다. 광의의 시각에서 한국음악학은 학문적･교육적･연주적･의학적･행정적 영역으로 설정할 수 있다. 한국음악학의 영역은 영역의 설정을 통한 학문의 고착화가 아니라 5가지 영역을 발판으로 다양한 논의과정을 거치면서 새로운 영역의 발굴과 연구 지평을 확산해나가야 한다. 본 논문을 통하여 한국음악학 연구방법에 관한 의미와 영역을 설정하였다. 논의의 과정에서 생산된 다양한 내용이 한국음악학 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

This study is focused on the methodology of researching Korean music. In this paper, I have examined how the domain of the research methods of Korean music can be classified and the details of each category, as well as the significance of each methodological approach. The methodological approaches in Korean musicology should be in Korean style and in order to build the Korean style, it is necessary to seek consilient perspectives and integrated approaches that demolish the barriers among the disciplines. In a wide sense, Korean musicology can be classified into different categories of scholarship, education, performance, medicine and administration. This classification is not meant to cause the fixation of each domain but to develop a new prospect in the field on the basis of them through various discussions. I have given a meaning to and have set the domains of the methodological approaches to Korean music in this paper and expect the discussions emerging from this study will be nourishing the development of Korean musicology.
