본고에서는 승문원 서리를 지낸 마성린(1727~1798) 가계의 경아전 서리 가계로서의 기원, 서리직 세전 시기, 족보 편찬, 혼인, 서자에 대한 차별과 적서 공존 양상 등에 대해서 살펴보았다. 현재까지 경아전 서리 가계의 앞의 현상에 대해 어느 한 가계를 연구 대상으로 삼아 탐구한 사례 연구는 없었다. 마성린의 가계는 지방 양반 가계의 庶派라는데, 경아전 서리 가계로서의 기원이 있었다. 마성린의 6대조 마운룡은 전남 곡성에서 세거한 장흥 마씨 양반 가문의 서자였다. 마성린의 가계는 17세기 초에 마운룡이 장흥에서 시흥으로 이주하였고, 이 이후 마운룡이나 그의 아들 마시봉부터 서리직에 진출하기 시작하였으며, 17세기에 서리직을 세전하였다. 18세기에 마성린 가계 구성원들은 조혼을 통하여 주로 같은 경아전 서리끼리 신분 내 혼인을 하는 등 기술직 중인 사회와는 다른 독자적인 영역을 구축하고 있었다. 또한 마성린이 서자를 차별하면서도 혈육으로 인정하며 공존하였던 것으로 보아, 대다수의 경아전 서리들은 서자를 차별하는 등 당시 지배층인 양반에 의해 형성된 가부장적 남성 중심 사회에 적응하면서 존재하였다고 생각한다. 경아전 서리들의 사회적인 지위는 기술직 중인에 비해 낮았을 것이라고 유추한다. 왜냐하면 가계 기록의 편찬 및 간행에 있어서 경아전 서리는 기술직 중인에 비해 훨씬 열세에 있었고, 경아전 서리 가계에서 세전한 서리직이 기술직 중인 가계에서 세전한 기술직보다 위계상 낮았기 때문이다. 앞으로 마성린 가계 이외의 다른 경아전 가계들에 대한 사례 연구가 진행되어, 이상의 양상들이 경아전 사회에서 일반적으로 존재하였는가의 여부가 보다 구체적으로 증명되기를 기대한다.
This paper studied on the Ma Seong-Lin(馬聖麟, 1727~1798) lineage who was SungMunWon(承文院) Seoli(書吏). Followings are results of the research in this paper:The origin of Ma Seong-Lin's lineage was in a child of a concubine of YangBan(兩班) lineage. Ma Seong-Lin's ancestors began to separate themselves from YangBan lineage and to form Seopa(庶派) in the late 16th century, moved from ChangHeung(長興) into SiHeung(始興) where was nearby HanYang(漢陽) in the early 17th century, started to hand down Seoli posts(書吏職) from generation to generation in the 17th century. From that time on, it was the custom in that family marriaged the other Seoli families members young. Ma Seong-Lin discriminated against children of a concubines, at the same time coexisted with them. Through this fact we can conjecture that most of GyeongAJeon(京衙前) Seolis adapted themselves to the patriarchal system formed by YangBans who were in the ruler class of those society. It is guessed that the social status of GyeongAJeon Seolis was lower than the that of Techical Post JungIn(技術職 中人). Following is the reason of that. GyeongAJeon Seoli was inferior to techical post JungIn in compilation of ChopBo(族譜) and the prestige of the Seoli posts was lower than techical post in the public office system. Studying more the other GyeongAJeon Seoli families, I expect to prove that above facts researched by this paper were the general aspects in the GyeongAJeon Seoli society or were not.
