“동아시아 지역경제통합을 위한 실질적인 대안은 무엇인가?” 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 논의를 진행하였다. 그리고 이 문제의식의 접근 방안을 유럽의 통합사례에 기초하여 “중일 협조체제가 동아시아 지역통합의 진행을 심화시킨다는 전제 하에 찾아보았다. 결론적으로 동아시아에서 양국은 서로 공조적인 협조체제를 형성하지 못하고 있다. 동아시아 지역경제통합에 있어 중국과 일본은 제로섬 게임의 대결구조 모습을 보이고 있다. 이러한 모습은 중국보다 일본에서 그 원인을 찾을 수가 있었다. 중국부상에 대해 일본이 중국 위협이라는 인식을 가지고 있으며, 이러한 인식은 동아시아 지역에서 패권의 경쟁이라는 대결구도로 이어지고 말았다. 그 결과 지역경제통합의 가장 첩경이라 할 수 있는 중일 FTA는 일본의 방관적 자세로 인해 구체적 논의조차 시작되지 않고 있으며, 역내 국가들과의 FTA 체결과정에서도 지역경제 통합과는 거리가 먼 단지 일본 자국의 경제적 전략만을 중시하는 모습을 보였다. 그리고 동아시아 지역경제통합 구상에서도 중국을 견제하고 미국과의 이해관계 우선하는 전략을 보여주고 있다.
The purpose of this paper is to compare and analyze the main aspects of china's and Japan's strategies of East Asian regional economic integration. China-Japanese relations are critical to the future development of the two countries, as well as East Asian regional economic integration process. Nonetheless, relations are lukewarm. In Europe, the cooperation of the rivals, France and Germany, has contributed to the highly institutionalized, and deeply integrated regional community. Japan's China threat theory is based upon the fast-growing economy of China. As a result, discussions on China-Japan FTA has not even started due to Japan's indifferent attitude. Japan also approaches ASEAN+6(EAEPA)on a matter of East Asian regional economic integration, restraining China while prioritizing its relationship with the United States.
