2014 지방선거에 나타난 유권자의 지역주의 투표행태를 분석한다. 중앙선거관리위원회가 집계한 집합자료와 더불어 6.4 지방선거 직후 실시된 유권자 의식 설문조사 자료를 활용해 표심에 나타난 지역주의 투표행태를 분석한 결과, 광역단체장 선거에서 지역기반 투표행태의 변화 조짐이 조금 발견되었으나, 여타 선거에는 여전히 견고한 영호남 중심의 지역주의 투표 행태가 관찰되었다. 그러나 유권자의 지역주의 투표 행태는 연령에 따라 변화하는 양상을 띠며, 젊은 세대 보다는 나이든 세대일수록 지역주의의 영향을 더 강하게 받는 것으로 드러났다. 따라서 향후 한국의 유권자 투표 행태 분석에 있어서 지역주의의 영향에 어떤 변화가 나타날까에 대한 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것이다.
This study analyzes the effects of region-based voting behavior of Koreans in 2014 local elections employing both aggregate-level voting record collected by the National Election Commission and the survey results conducted by Korean Political Science Association and Korean Party Studies Association. Despite some signs of decreasing role of regional voting observed at provincial level elections, this study finds that region-based voting behavior has clearly appeared both in Youngnam and Honam. This study also uncovers that the effects of regional voting are heterogeneous across generations, and the older tends to exhibit stronger regional identity than the younger. The findings here thus require further future works that examine how regionalism will change as the younger gets older.
