이 연구의 목적은 전기 베이비부머(55년～59년생) 25명의 여성을 대상으로 한 생애과정 심층면접을 통해 이들의 가치관의 특징과 세대로서의 공통성의 존재여부를 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 연구결과, 집단주의 가치관을 특징으로 하는 아래와 같은 세대적 경향이 드러났다. 첫째, 이들은 청(소)년기를 보낸 박정희(시대)를 빈곤탈출의 역사로 숭앙하는 물질주의적 가치를 공유하며, 일종의 ‘박정희주의’라 부를 수 있는 기억을 공유하고 있었다. 이것은 경제적 태도에서만이 아니라 독재에 대한 관용적 태도, 사회질서에 대한 보수적 입장과도 연결되어 있었다. 둘째, 지역주의적 태도가 두드러졌다. 출신지역에 따른 투표행위가 보이는 생애적 일관성, 동창회ㆍ향우회 등의 지역기반 사회활동이 그것이다. 시민단체 참여와 같은 보편적 유대의 사회활동은 찾아보기 어려웠으며, 그 대신 종교생활과 같은 정서적 활동에 몰입하는 경향이 강하였다. 셋째, 가족주의라는 집단주의의 태도도 강력했다. 가족성공을 자녀교육 투자에서 추구하여 두자녀 출산전략을 수행하고, 남편과의 소득결합을 지속하는 등 도구적 가족주의 전략을 구사하였다. 그러나 부계계승을 중심으로 한 제도적 가족주의의 측면은 (부모에 대한)부양의식과 (자녀로부터의)피부양의식 모두에서 약화되고 있었다. 마지막으로 일종의 연령주의로서, 청년 세대에 대한 적극적인 문화적 구별짓기의 태도가 두드러졌다.
This article aims at studying the characteristics of attitudes and values of Korean baby boomers who were born in the former years from 1955 to 1959 among the whole period baby boomer generation with the birth cohort from 1955 to 1964, by analyzing the in-depth interviews with the 25 women of the diverse academic backgrounds, regions, and jobs. The results are as follows: Firstly, they showed the strong collectivist value related with the shared memories of President Park’s presidency when they spent their youths. The time was memorized as the that of success at escaping from the severe poverty, which contributed to their materialism, making them feel the community of memory. Secondly, regionalism was another kind of collectivism found in the narratives. It was remarkable in the action of voting by region in the times of the presidential election. Their voting actions were very consistent throughout their lives, which were divided along the regioal line of “Honam”(Jeolla province) and “non-Honam” The regional attitudes were strengthened by the gatherings of the kinds of the alumni meetings associated with region of birth. Comparatively the social action for the solidarity for the public goods or the publicness were hardly found. What was there instead was the immoderate rate of participation at the religious community. Thirdly, the familism was strong as expected, while it has been weakening rapidly compared to the previous collectivist characteristics. Lastly, the most collectivist and conservative attitudes were found in the respect of such an ageism against the young generation as criticizing them for the excessive consumption and self-centeredness.
