문화예술을 활용하는 도시재생이 일반화되고 있지만 문화예술과 도시재생의 관계에 관한 논의는 체계적으로 이루어져 있지 않다. 본고는 문화예술 기반 도시재생을 하나의 기법으로 만들기위해 양자 간의 이론적 관계를 정립하려는 시론적인 시도이다. 이를 위해 먼저 문화예술과 도시 재생이 연계될 수 있게 된 배경을 다각적으로(문화 민주주의, 포스트모더니즘, 문화 다양성, 사회적 자본 등) 살펴보고, 이어서 문화예술의 다양한 가치(본질적 가치와 파생적 가치들)와 도시재생의 복합적인 목적들(창의성, 경제성, 사회성, 지역성 등) 간의 연계고리를 체계화하려고 했다. 우리의 논의는 향후 실천적 사례들의 검토를 통해 이론과 실천 간의 왕래발착적 관점에서 보완되어 나가야 한다.
Urban regeneration or renaissnace(UR) using culture-arts(CA) is generally realized, but the liaison between them is not systematically established. This article tries to build up the theoretic basis which may make ‘CA-based UR' a method of UR. For this purpose, we examine, first of all, from various points of view (cultural democracy, post-modernism, cultural diversity, social capital, etc.) the background that made possible to relate CA with UR, and we try to systematize the elements of their liaison by distinguishing not only various values of UA (substantial value and derived values) but also multiple aims of UR (creativity; economic, social and regional aims). Our discussion must be completed through an examination of their practical cases from the point of view of allée-retour between theory and practice.
