오늘날 고전문학이 재생산 되는 분위기에서 영화 『디 워』가 탄생했다. 이는 우리의 용설화 여의주 승천담 각 편이 결합하여 또 하나의 완형 용설화가 탄생했다는것을 의미한다. 이 점에 주목하여 용설화 여의주 승천담의 전승 양상을 살핀 뒤에영화가 이들을 어떻게 변용했는지를 밝혔다. 용설화 여의주 승천담의 용될 존재들은 승천을 위해 여의주가 필요하다. 소극적이지만 용의 여의주 획득과 승천날은 하늘에 의해 정해진 것으로 전승된다. 또한승천하기 위해서는 하늘의 이치에 합당해야 한다. 특히 하늘은 여의주에 대한 과욕을 경계한다. 이들 설화에서 여의주는 외부에서 획득해야 하므로 얻기가 어려워 여의주 경쟁담도 볼 수 있다. 이 경쟁에서 인간의 도움을 입어 천룡이 된다. 설화 전승에서 여의주는 여자에게서 생성되고 여성과 관련되는 것으로 나타난다. 그래서 이것은 보주나 용주로서의 여의주의 성격과는 멀어져 설화 내에서도 변용을 확인하였다. 이러한 용설화 여의주 승천담은 영화 『디 워』에서 강조되거나 변용되어 나타났다. 전생과 현생의 반복 장치로 천명의식이 강조되었다. 여의주는 새라로 인격화되어 우주를 구원할 희생양이 되었다. 용의 싸움에 끼어들어 승천을 돕는 설화적영웅은 영화 『디 워』에서 용 대결과는 직접 관련이 없는 반운명론적인 영웅으로 변용되어 하늘의 뜻에 맞섰다. 영화 『디 워』는 용설화 여의주 승천담의 구조, 소재, 인물의 역할을 변용하여 고전문학을 재생산하였다.
