본 연구는 노인 자원봉사활동의 동기가 노인 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향에 관하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상자는 노인 자원봉사활동이 비교적 활발한 충북 제천시 소재의 사회복지관 및 노인복지관의 60대 이상 남녀 노인을 중심으로 총 310명의 자료를 최종 분석에 활용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인 자원봉사활동을 통하여 노인의 자기개발동기와 지역사회에 참여하고자 하는 대의동기는 노인 임파워먼트에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 자원봉사활동의 참가 동기가 노인 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향은 성별로 차이가 있었다. 즉, 남성 노인의 경우 지역사회에 기여하고자 하는 대의 동기가 임파워먼트 함양에 효과가 있었다. 반면 여성 노인의 경우는 대의동기 외에도 다양한 동기가 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었는데, 자기개발동기 및 주변의 권유에 의한 외부 동기도 노인 임파워먼트 함양에 효과가 있었다. 셋째, 노인 자원봉사활동의 동기가 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향은 연령에 따라 차이가 있었다. 이에 따르면 60대 연소 노인의 경우 사회참여의 대의동기가, 70대 노인의 경우는 대의동기와 자기개발 동기가, 80대 노인에게서는 자기개발동기가 임파워먼트에 효과적인 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 분석의 결과는 사회적 차원에서 노인들의 자원봉사인력을 활용할 때, 노인이 지니고 있는 동기를 노인 자원봉사활동에 적극적으로 반영하는 것이 필요하며 노인의 성별이나 연령을 고려하는 것이 효과적이라는 것을 함의한다.
This study analyzes how the types and motives of volunteering affect empowerment for the elderly in individual, interpersonal, social and political aspects. The targets were 310 senior citizens in total; the data mainly includes those over 60 years old in Chungbuk Jeohun Senior Welfare Centre who have been comparatively active in volunteer activities. The SPSS 15.0 program has been used to perform percentage analysis, frequency analysis, and regression analysis on the sample data. In this study, it differentiated between general volunteering and volunteer activities using their accumulated resources, and compared effectiveness of each in empowerment. Further more, it attempts to observe changes caused by motives of volunteering by the elderly. The results of this study are as follows. The senior citizens’ motives for self-development and to participate in the community through their volunteer activities have a significant influence on the empowerment for the elderly. And it is different from gender and ages. These results have a significance in the fact that attempting to use their expertise is effective in their volunteer activities.
