본 논문은 로컬과 로컬리티에 대한 연구를 인문학적 담론의 지평으로 확대하기 위한 시론의 성격을 갖는 글이다. 지역 또는 지방으로서의 로컬/로컬리티는 근대성과 중심주의의 논리에 의해 지배, 왜곡되었다. 이러한 문제의 심층적 해결은 좀 더 근원적 성찰을 요구하며 기존의 로컬과 로컬리티의 연구 결과들을 비판적으로 수용하고 이론과 실천의 양 측면을 고려하여 로컬리티를 인문학적 방식으로 심화, 확장시킴으로써 담론화하는 로컬리티의 학, 즉 로컬리톨로지를 통하여 이루어질 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위한 예비 작업으로 로컬과 로컬리티의 다양한 의미들을 살펴보고 로컬리티의 제 측면을 구분하여 그 적용가능성을 찾아본다. 이를 바탕으로 복합적이고 유동적인 성격의 로컬리티 연구를 위한 통합적 접근방식을 통섭에 대한 논의를 중심으로 모색해본다.
This study intends to examine the meaning of local and locality through humanities. It is based on the reflections on the various problems in the local derived from the excess of modernism and the nation-state's centralism. In order to explain the implications of critical view and to find the solution we attempt an interdisciplinary and synthetic study combined by the theoretical approach and practical suggestion of locality. We call it localitology as a science of locality. This is a kind of synthetic theory of locality intergrating local and regional studies and also discourses/narratives persuing the extension of locality studies. This paper is an initiative essay to present the conceptual and methodological aspects of localitology. This study distinguish three aspects of locality ― physical and fundamental locality, relative and stratificational locality, epistemic and axiological locality ― to clarify its explicit and implicit significations. We also present some schemata in order to show the complex mouvement and multiple stratum of locality process. In addition we lay emphasis on the importance of the interdisciplinary method and the emergent way of obtaining the inter-referential results.
