이 논문은 포스트모던 시대의 포스트모더니티와 포스트모더니티에 대한 문화연구의 특성과 의미를 문헌연구를 통해 고찰하기 위한 것이다. 이 작업은 로컬리티(locality) 연구를 이론화하는 하나의 중요한 접근방식을 제안하기 위한 것이기도 하다. 이를 위해 이 글에서는 포스트모더니티의 상황을 제시하고, 이러한 상황을 대중문화와 관련시켜 이해하고자 한다. 또한 포스트모더니티의 상황을 맥락의 관점에서이해하고자 하는 문화인류학이라는 학문과의 관련성에 주목하여, 포스트모더니티와 문화인류학에서의 문화연구와의 관계 또는 상호작용의 특성과 그 의미를 이론적관점에서 접근하고자 한다. 최근 포스트모더니티의 문화인류학은 민족지나 문화인류학적 글쓰기의 여타 장르뿐만 아니라 로컬리티 연구와 관련된 사회이론, 문화이론,심리학이론 등의 모든 수준에 수많은 도전장을 내밀고 있다. 이런 점에서 이 글에서는 포스트모더니티의 문화인류학이 로컬리티 연구의 접근 방식으로서 의미를 지니며, 이에 대한 문화인류학적 문화연구의 연구 성과와 그에 대한 비판적 성찰이 다양한 포스트모더니티 현상에 대한 로컬리티 문화연구의 특성과 의미를 맥락적 관점으로 이해하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다는 것을 강조한다.
This article aims to examine the cultural characteristics and meanings ofpostmodernity and cultural studies on postmodernity with special reference to anapproach to theorize studies on locality. In this paper, I propose the approach andmethod to theorize studies on locality. In doing so, I examine the postmodernconditions and the interrelationship between postmodernity and popular culture withspecial reference to the concept of locality. Paid attention to the relationshipbetween postmodernity and anthropology, I investigate the characteristics andmeanings of interrelationship between postmodernity and anthropological culturalstudies from a theoretical perspective, which is focused on studies on the local andlocality. Furthermore, I emphasize that anthropology and cultural studies wouldcontribute to pursue and develop the theorization of studies on locality in thecontextual point of view. In this sense, I investigate that the postmodern conditionsclose relation to popular culture and both anthropology and cultural studies havevarious academic fields and areas, which have dealt with the characteristics andmeanings of popular culture in postmodern conditions and postmodernities.
