People assume the name of DokDo comes from a dialect of Kangwon Province and Kyeongsang Province "Dok"(stone, rock),or Dok(甕: Korean sound dok, ong: Chinese sound. a big jar-shaped). Geographically Uleungdo and Dokdo are not distant from Kangwon Province and Kyeongsang Province. People guessed many people of two Provinces moved into Ulleungdo than those of Cheolla Province did. In fact more people of Cheolla Province moved into Ulleungdo. But Cheolla Province is more distant from Ulleungdo than Kangwon Province, Kyueongsang Province. People of Cheolla Province could use a Korean current, a part of the Black current which flows from sonthern coast of Korea to Ulleungdo and sail back and forth easily and quickly. Their dialect Dok took a rood in Ulleungdo and the Dokdo (stone Island) named after Cheolla Provincial dialect Dokdo. So the name Dokdo comes from Cheolla provincial dialect Dok+do(island). In that place people call standard Dol(stone or rock) 'dok' in Cheolla provincial dialect. standard dolbat (stone field) dokbat, and doldam(stone fense) dokdam in Cheolla provincial dialect. So I assert Dokdo comes from dok of Cheolla Provincial dialect.
