본고의 목표는 우리 신화 <바리공주>에 나타난 공간 이동을 중심으로, 공간의 담론을 살펴 향후 트랜스미디어 콘텐츠 제작을 위한 학술적 기반을 마련하는 것이다. 따라서 필자는 우선 동서양의 신화와 옛이야기 속에 존재하는 ‘하강 모티프’의 내용과 특징을 비교 분석하고, 이를 기초로 <바리공주> 서사의 보편성과 특수성을 조명할 것이다. 그런 다음 ‘분리, 입문, 회귀’의 원질신화 전형을 띤 <바리공주>의 서사구조에서 ‘하강’의 공간이동 방식이 수직이 아닌 수평적 이동임에 주목하여, 수평 이동 상의 공간 확장 가능성을 모색해 보려 한다. 비교신화학적 관점에서 보편성과 특수성이 입증된 구약여행담 계열 무속신화 서사를 탈역사시대의 새로운 여성영웅담으로의 가공하는 작업은 우리 신화의 글로컬라이제이션을 위해 끽긴하다. 다양한 층위의 공간 이동 서사와 더불어 공간 이동의 필연성 등이 잘 녹아든 <바리공주>가 매력적인 플롯으로 구현된다면, 최근 각광받는 디지털미디어 매체의 3d 공간에도 잘 어우러지는 서사 - 미지의 우주로 나아가는 영웅담-로도 재탄생될 수 있으리라고 본다.
This paper aims at analyzing the characteristics and contents of the various descent motifs among Oriental/Occidental myths and legends, in order to legitimize “Princess Bari” story conversion into a transmedia contents. Many hero myths dealing with the descent motifs are employed to search for the universality and particularity for the case studies herein. The typical monomyth ‘departure-initiation-return’ structure “Princess Bari” has, of which the descent motif is worthy of notice. Since it is more related to the horizontal migration, rather than vertical mobility. The characteristics uncovered is such an universal ones that it could be possible to retell in a newly formed goddess’ odyssey story in accordance with the glocalization-production. Once the multi-stratigraphic space moves and the reasons of the moves as well constructed cogently into an attractive plot and discourse, it is no doubt to fulfill the next generation’s expectation for the 3d spatial digital media contents. Even Princess Bari could be reborn as an astronaut on the spaceshuttle to the Pluto, fictional outer(under)world where water-of-life tales would no longer earthy but cosmically tall-taled.
