This study aims to present the effective pedagogical method that can help Korean language learners to improve their competence in the usage of the particles ‘i/ka’ and ‘eun/neun’. The particle ‘eun/neun’ is often mistakenly perceived as a subject particle by learners as both ‘i/ka’ and ‘eun/neun’ are found after the subject in sentences. Therefore, the learners often randomly choose one of them to use as a subject particle, leading to pragmatic errors. In this study the particles were classified according to their semantic, pragmatic and syntactic features from the perspective of teaching Korean as a foreign language. A lesson was designed to reflect the different functions of these two particles in various contexts by presenting samples of dialogue. The classroom experiment proved the effectiveness of this method of teaching.
