The purpose of this study is to explore international graduate students’ adaptation process to school life and to examine what stresses they experience and how they try to release the stresses. To solve these problems, we were charge of research during four months from Oct. 2013 to Jan. 2014. The research participants were 8 international graduate students studying at graduate school of Arts and Sciences of C University in Seoul and of I University in Incheon. And we collected data through in-depth interviews with them. We analyzed the collected data into academic, social, emotional and environmental adaptations, according to university life adaptation scale proposed by Baker and Siryk(1989). As a result, students got stress because of these reasons in three aspects: first, in academic adaptation, they suffer from poor Korean language skill and writing academic dissertation. Second, in social adaptation, they feel difficulty in social relationship with professors and seniors. Third, in emotional adaptation, desire to get helps and diffident feelings as living in unfamiliar environment of graduate school are also causes of stress. They have been trying to adapt to school life.
