지식정보사회에서 요구되는 능력이 지식을 습득하는 능력에서 새로운 지식을창출하는 능력으로 변화됨에 따라 최근 전국 대학에서 학생들에게 이러한 문제해결 능력의 기초적인 소양을 함양할 수 있도록 창안된 <사고와 표현>에서는 스스로 생각하는 힘을 기르고 자신의 생각을 표현할 수 있는 비판적 사고와 창의적사고가 중요시된다. <사고와 표현>은 모든 전공을 아우르는 횡단매개적인 통합교과목으로서 개별 전공들의 간-텍스트적, 통섭적인 학습을 통해 개별 사유 체계가 지닌 장점들을 모아 시너지 효과를 최대화하려고 시도한다. <사고와 표현>에서는 여러 분야의 텍스트들을 개별 전공의 틀을 넘어 보편적인 교양 영역의 생각해볼 거리로 활용한다. 본 연구의 목적은 유길준의 ..서유견문.. 중 <개화의 등급>을 패러다임의 전환의관점에서 읽어보고자 한다. ..서유견문..은 단순한 여행기록을 넘어 문화 전 분야를 아우르는 문화소개서이다. 그는 이 책에서 전 세계 여러 나라를 상세하게 소개하여 당시 중국 중심의 세계관을 극복하는 탈중국중심주의적 세계관의 새로운패러다임을 제시한다. 그는 이 책을 당시 지식인들이 사용하던 한문 대신 한글과 한문을 혼용하여 근대 국민국가와 관련된 언문일치를 지향해가는 문체의 혁신을 시도한다. 특히 『서유견문』의 결론이라고 할 수 있는 14편의 <개화의 등급>은 동양과 서양의 충돌과 접촉의 시대에 우리 문화와 서양의 문물, 옛날과 현대, 어느 쪽으로도 치우침 없이 포용하는 중도적인 자주개화 사상을 체계화한다. 10개의 단락으로 구성된 <개화의 등급>의 첫 번째 단락에서 유길준은 개화에 대한 총체적이고이상주의적인 정의를 제시하고, 개화하는 자, 반쯤 개화한 자, 아직 개화하지 않은 자의 세 등급으로 개화의 등급을 나누어 우리나라가 추구해야 할 개화의 방향과 개화의 행동강령을 제시한다. 외국 문물을 처음 접하게 되는 개화기의 상황에서 자주성을 잃지 않으면서도 외국 문물을 유연하게 수용할 것을 권하며, 남에의해 강제로 개화를 겪는 개화의 노예가 되는 것을 삼가 경계하도록 강조한다. <개화의 등급>은 급변하는 국제 정세 속에서 외국의 장점을 받아들여 우리의것을 더욱 풍부하게 하고 전통과 현대의 조화롭고 균형을 지키며 개화를 이룸으로써 자주적인 근대국가를 수립하기 위한 이론적, 실천적 지침이 되는 혁신적인개화사상으로 <사고와 표현>에서 추구하는 비판적, 논리적, 종합적 사고의 읽기자료가 된다.
The abilities required by knowledge-based society is changing fromthe acquiring knowledges to generating new knowledges with existinginformations. In the course of <Thinking and expression> emphasizesthe ability of critical and creative thinking. This course is the integratededucation course, maximizing synergies through learning the merits ofeach text of different areas and joining the barrel of the individual major. The purpose of this research is to review the enlightenment thoughtthat appears on the ‘Enlightenment Level’ in Seoyu Gyunmun ofGil-Jun Yu from the perspective of a paradigm shift. What are thecreative aspects of the enlightenment suggested by Gil-Jun Yu, the onlyone scholar during Chosun Dynasty who experienced internationaltrend through his travel to Japan, America and European countries?Although this book has a format of travel journal, the book introducesabout the geography, politics, economy, education and other areas of the countries he visited. The purpose of this book was to help Koreansleave out of the China-oriented world’s view and propose the enlightenmentso that the Koreans may not be left behind the international trend. Ofthe many views about the direction of the enlightenment, he took thecompromising position between the East and West, between past andpresent. The author created a ‘mixed style of writing Korean withChinese characters in it’ in order that as many as people can readand understand his ideas about the Enlightenment with ease. Thismixed style is a transitional style preparing the unification of thewritten and spoken language related to the modern nation-state. At the Chapter 14 ‘Enlightenment Level’ of Seoyu Gyunmun, whichis the conclusion of the book, the core part of his thought about theenlightenment is described. This study reviews the uniqueness andindependence of this thought by focusing on the ‘Enlightenment Level’. He starts the chapter with definition about the enlightenment, “Thatall things reach to the good and beautiful situation.” He classified theenlightenment Level into three classes: Enlightened; Half-enlightened;and Unenlightened. He emphasized that Koreans should not becomethe slaves of the enlightenment because the slaves of the enlightenmentwill be ruled by other country. He emphasized also that Koreans shouldnot copy the enlightenment of other countries like the enlightenmentby false reputation, but learn the principles that are applicable to theactual situations of the Korean people. In his book, Gil-Jun Yu emphasized the mental value in the enlightenmentinstead of external conditions or standard and the moderate manner toview the current situation with balanced thought. As mentioned onthe above, this book is more like a conduct guidebook, instead of the62 travel journal, which urges Koreans start the enlightenment as soon asthey can. This study reviews the value of his critical and moderatethought and the uniqueness of the enlightenment he descried in thisbook.
