이 글은 영화를 활용한 사고와 표현 교육을 비주얼 리터러시(Visual literacy) 교육 측면에서 접근하였다. 그동안 국내 학계에서는 ‘리터러시literacy’를 ‘문식성’ 으로 번역하여 단순히 문자언어를 읽는 능력을 중심으로 인식해 왔고, 최근 들어서야 미디어 리터러시 등의 용어로 리터러시의 의미를 확장하여 접근해 왔다. 이에 이 논문은 영화라는 시청각 매체 장르의 특성을 살린 Unsworth 등의 해외학자의 관련 연구를 소개하고 이를 적용하여 교육하는 방식을 소개하고 이를 적용한 수업모형을 제시하였다. 여러 분야를 통괄할 수 있는 융합형 인재가 미래 사회에 필요하게 됨으로써 미래 지식인 유형의 변화에도 영향을 미친다. 이에 현대 사회에서 중요한 문제 중하나인 환경문제 중 원자력발전소 문제를 다룬 영화인 <클라우드>를 활용하여 학생들로 하여금 이 영화를 비판적으로 읽는 능력을 키우고 더불어 토론과 글쓰기등 사고와 표현 교육을 하는 방법을 제시하였다.
This study took an approach of visual literacy education in education of thinking and expression through film. Korean academic circles had been recognized ‘literacy’ as simply ability to read written words. Though not until recently has they used expanded meaning for literacy using term like media literacy. Therefore, this study introduce researches oversees focusing on the characteristic of audio-visual media genre, which is movie, for the first time in domestic academic circles. Moreover, it suggests class model applying the methods in the researches. According to increasing need of convergence human resources this study suggests the educational model using film The Cloud, which dealing with the environmental problems of nuclear plant. In detail, it is an educational model that can foster student’s critical ability of visual literacy and educate thinking and expression. Overall, this educational model proposes interdisciplinary model of humanistic reading education and discussion education over nuclear power through movie.
