Cho Ik(趙翼)'s Juseoyoryu(『朱書要類』) is a compilation work based on Zhu Xi(朱熹)'s writings. Together with Yi Hwang(李滉)'s JuJaseo Jeolyo(『朱子書節要』) and Jeong Kyeong Se(鄭經世)’s Jumun Jakhai(『朱文酌海』), it is in the tradtion of selecting and compiling important contents from Zhu Xi(朱熹)'s Neo-Confucianism writings. Cho Ik(趙翼) compiled his Juseoyoryu (『朱書要類』) by selecting fundamental contents from Yi Hwang(李滉)'s JuJaseo Jeolyo(『朱子書節要』) and reassorting them according to their subjects. Therefore, Cho Ik(趙翼)'s compilation work is different from Yi Hwang(李滉)'s JuJaseo Jeolyo(『朱子書節要』), which assorted contents by cases and persons, or Jeong Kyeong Se(鄭經世)’s Jumun Jakhai(『朱文酌海』), which arranged its contents according to JuJa Daijeon(『朱子大全』)'s order of assorting contents. Thus, Cho Ik(趙翼)'s Juseoyoryu(『朱書要類』) was a leading scholarly piece which influenced later compilation works like Juseobuyru(『朱書分類』), which also assorted their contents according to subjects. Cho Ik(趙翼) applied Geunsarok(『近思錄』)'s system when he first compiled his Juseoyoryu(『朱書要類』), but in his later years, he attempted to change Juseoyoryu(『朱書要類』)'s order by relocating contents about philosophical theory to the concluding part and contents about the way of studying to the beginning. This was an expression of his idea about learning that studies for everyday use must precede metaphysics. Especially, Cho Ik(趙翼) emphasizes the way of studying as the essence of studies for everyday use(下學) and he discusses about the meaning and the way of studying. This shows his scholarly tendency of stressing Four Classics(四書) as the most important texts. Also, placing the way of syudying in the beginning is related to his criticism against contemporary scholars who were engaged mainly in the metaphysics.
