이 논문은 여러 문헌을 참고하여 효장세자의 생애를 간략하게 정리하고, 『眞宗東宮日記』에 나타난 書筵과 召對 등 교육 교재와 실제, 죽음 및 상례 절차, 시강원 해산 과정과 攝侍講院 설치 등을 중심으로 여타 동궁일기와 다른 이 일기만의 특징적인 부분을 추출한 것이다. 이를 통해 유실된 제3책의 행방은 內入된 채 시강원에 반납되지 않았다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또 제5책에는 1728년의 일기뿐만 아니라 그 이후로 적어도 3년에 걸친 기록이 더 있었다. 교재로 등장하는 『祖鑑』의 편찬 과정에 대한 명확한 정보가 담겨 있었다. 죽은 세자의 상례는 인정과 도리를 참작하여 정격으로 치러졌고, 세자시강원의 혁파도 전례에 얽매이지 않고 적절하게 처리되었다. 이로 볼 때 『眞宗東宮日記』는 단순히 어린 세자에 관한 시강원일기라는 차원을 넘어서 종합적인 정보를 담고 있으므로 다양한 각도에서 연구의 논거를 제공해 준다고 할 수 있다.

And there was clear information about the compilation process of Jogam(祖鑑) as teaching material Crown Prince's funeral rites was taken in proper form considering human desire and faith, and the Office of Crown Prince's reform was processed without being bound in ceremony properly.
